Re-Mix Wednesday! Inspiration that Rocks!

I have an interesting challenge to discuss after today's OOTD.  Sale or no sale!  Full steam ahead.

Today's outfit is a complete re-mix!  You have seen everything I am wearing in a post except one item. AND....I combined a Floral and a Plaid plus the Roadway Tights.

The Top is Anthro's Jahoda Corset Top.  See me wear it dressed up HERE. Two years ago both Heidi and Christine purchased this top in the Fresno CA store.  I didn't.  I picked mine up a few months later on sale. Our annual shopping trip this year is to Anthro in Santa Monica. I'm counting down to the first or second weekend of March.

I wore the Hop, Skip, Jump Skirt about 2 weeks ago HERE.  I really love this skirt.  So tell me when you guys get tired of seeing me in it.  If they made it in every color of the rainbow, I would endeavour to have them all.

Over the top and skirt went the Delphi Hippodrome Belt.  I've worn this belt more than any other in my closet.  I styled it with a dress HERE, HERE and HERE.

Unless you have gone pocking around in my Virtual Closet, you have never seen the Homecoming Game Jacket by Sanctuary. And a very cozy jacket I might add.  I'm ashamed to say I haven't given this coat love in almost 2 years until today.  If you look closely at my wrists you can see the shiny, quilted, Gold lining.

I just love Anthro's Roadway Tights.  See me wear them HERE with a Modcloth Dress. And the Upended Ankle Boots just might become a favorite too.  See me practice some Ballet moves wearing them HERE.  By my side today is Orla Kiely's All Leather Handbag in Ink.  It's O.K. all the way!

Esty Shop psbymelanie - Strawberry Lampwork Bracelet and Earrings - $38 for the set - Apr 2009

Etsy's Strawberry Fields Lampwork Bracelet and Earrings were part of what I call my Matchy/Match phase of styling 2 years ago.  The shop name is psbymelanie.  She custom made the earrings to Matchy/Match the bracelet.  Heidi has a similar bracelet from Etsy that I considered ordering before I found this one.  So yes, we were Matchy/Match together with the strawberries that are sprinkled about the Jahoda Corset Top.

Anthro's Mrs. Blackbeard's Necklace - by Wendy Mink -
Orig $198 Sale $50 - Feb 2011

Anthro's Perthshire Dress with Mrs. Blackbeard's Necklace September 2010 Catalog

This is what I got on sale this morning with my Birthday Gift Certificate from Heidi and Christine. After Three weeks, the Anthro GC finally returned after spending it on a cancelled item. The original price for this Wendy Mink Necklace was $198.  A few weeks ago it finally hit sale for $100.  I think I've had my Perthshire Dress, purchased on sale, for more than two months. I noticed last week that the necklace still was not selling well.  So I was ever so happy to pick it up for $50 today.  Yeah!  My patience paid off on another great Anthro deal.  But still no D'armee Dress.  My Saintly patience is dwindling.

Now on to my exciting news.

A SELF IMPOSED CHALLENGE USING YOUR INSPIRATION!

Most of you know that my field of study was Geology. What comes to mind when you think of Geology?  Study of the Earth?  OK!  What else?

The study of ROCKS and MINERALS!

I want you, my Readers and Fellow Bloggers to send me photos of a ROCK or a MINERAL from the Internet or elsewhere. Please make sure that you know what the name of the specimen is.

GUIDELINES:

1.  I am going to re-mix an outfit each week on Wednesday for 6 weeks from one of your chosen submissions.

2.  Starting today though Saturday of the following week (that gives me Sunday to plan Wednesday's outfit) you can send me one submission each.  I thought I would give you some extra time for the first submissions.  Next Wednesday I will re-mix my own example to get started. My example will be number 1 of 6. The following Wednesday I will re-mix one of your photo submissions.  I get to pick which Rock or Mineral to use as inspiration from your pool of submissions for the week.

3.  After re-mix number 2 from your first submissions.  You will have Sunday through Saturday to submit photos for Wednesday's ROCK and MINERAL inspired Re-Mix. Again, giving me a Weekend day (Sunday) to choose and plan.

Note: You may only get 2 posts a week out of me for the entire 6 weeks.  We will see how it goes.  As it stands I spend my entire weekend planning posts and making comment rounds.  I barely have time to plan a wardrobe and shop.  A good thing no?

3. Please email me a photo of the specimen, and please no URBANITE.

THE KICKER:

Do not tell me what the name of the specimen is.

I have to identify it.  Please don't give me some strange mixture of stuff.  Because I only know the basics.

After 6 weeks, we will vote on the best specimen and it's matching outfit.

THE INCENTIVE:

The winner will get something very special that I hinted about in the past. But for now I'm not going to let the cat out of the bag.  So this is my first Giveaway ever.  This is not for the purpose of gaining Followers. You don't have to blog about the Challenge or Giveaway unless you want to, just to make it more fun.

So start sending me those photo specimens.  I think this will be a lot of fun, plus I will get to brush up on my Rock and Mineral identification.  And I plan to bring Heidi in on it when I need a little help.  So I hope she's paying attention.

To get started, this is my personal specimen and choice for next week.  I will tell you the name next Wednesday.

Start sending me those photo specimens.

This sounds fun Laura, I have a lump of something at home that immediately sprang to mind so I'll photograph it tonight and send it over :)

I hope you know what it is Louise. Because I may not be able to identify it.

Please send that ROCK? I've only got one submission so far. I already ID'd it. But I'm ready for more.
This sounds really fun! I've been thinking that I need to do some kind of challenge too to help out my outfits...hmmm. I think I know what today's mineral is! And it appears to also be an archaeological specimen--I see percussion flake scars and the bottom edge looks worked too. Pretty cool either way. My hubby's a geologist so I'll get him to make some suggestions! Hah!

Nope! Those are naturally occurring mineral growths from the rock being super heated. Before he tells you what it is, I will. It's Snowflake Obsidian. A volcanic rock.

Ohhhhh rocks! Love it! my favourite part of school in both university and high school was studying rocks :) I know what I will want to send~

You should be able to ID this rock. It's glassy! It's Black! It has a waxy feel. If you hit it with a rock hammer it will break in chips. So no cleavage. It was super heated when, mixed with another White mineral, then cooled very fast. Hence the white mineral growth.

Interesting!! I am just waiting for my local Anthro to open.. Hoping my daughter won't wake up till I come back! lol ( my husband is still sleeping next to her ) I will send you a photo! Does it have to be a weird rock? or can it be something like.. ruby? or aquamarine?
3 replies · active 739 weeks ago
Must be a rock in it's natural shape. So no cut gem stones. I want it to be interesting and have texture. But really, you can send anything you want. I make the choice. The more awesome and fun it is to style, the more chance you have of your specimen being selected. So better chance of winning the final vote and giveaway.

btw, how can I change the comment appearance in my blog?

That's the whole idea. No one is telling me. I have to identify it.

I love the idea for your "Inspiration that Rocks" challenge!! So cool, and so uniquely you. (And also educational!)

Also, I'm obsessed with your virtual closet. That inventory is truly inspiring.

ALSO also, how did I miss those booties when they went on sale?? They look fab!
Love this skirt...I just picked it up in brown. I like your challenge, and can't wait to see what you come up with.
Wow Laura, what a fab idea! I will have to do some digging around for pictures of rocks! And what is that black rock you posted? I'm terrible with rock names..it's not granite is it? Is Granite even a type of rock?? I think i have an idea! Well, i hope it qualifies as a rock...hehe.
Your remixing skills are splendid! You look so cute, and i'm in love with that Etsy strawberry bracelet of yours - adorable!

Nope! Not granite. You'll have to wait until next Wednesday when I style an outfit using the Rock for inspiration.

Laura, this is so much fun! I just sent you my photo and I can't wait to see what you come up with.
Laura, this is a fantastic idea! I have a gemstone in mind...and I even think I might know what item you would base your inspiration on, if you were to choose the stone. I'm searching for the perfect picture now.

And I just recently saw the Hip Skip Jump skirt in person. I hadn't realized it had those textured side panels -- one more reason to love it. I prevented myself from trying it on, since I knew I'd be making a trip to the register if I did.
