No Anthro Zone Review! The Fluttering Obi Dress by Corey Lynn Calter

I was hoping to love this dress as much as Corey Lynn Calter's Fragrant Valley Dress.  That is not the case. This dress didn't look great on the Anthro model. Since models aren't built like the rest of us, I expected a different fit.  But it really wasn't. This would have made a very nice SILK ROBE.

Fluttering Obi Dress - by Corey Lynn Calter - Anthro Orig $198 Sale $100 - Feb 2011

Pros: lovely silk, contrasting belt, pockets, corey lynn calter

Cons: poor style for silk, size down one or two sizes, belt too short, length too long, neckline too low, frumpy

SIZE:  I ordered my normal size 4. I'm 5'6" Tall, 130 lbs, 36-28-35, with narrow shoulders. I worried I would need a size 6.  HA-HA!

FIT: The Fragrant Valley ran small. Mine is a size 6. I really needed a 2 for this dress. It's very large everywhere. As you can see in my photos, the straps of my Anthro Reversible Camisole in Ivory are showing at the side.  Why? The neckline is too low, and wide across my narrow shoulders.  Even the hips are too wide.  The elastic waist was fine.  And as expected from reading the online reviews, the belt attached in back does not wrap all the way to the front. The length is just above my knees.

DETAILS: You could detach the belt with one snip than wrap it from front to back instead.  Then the back of the dress can be ugly. They just didn't make the belt long enough. The pockets are frumpy.  Even the sleeves were just too big.

FABRIC: Love the print, but it's much too thin.  Looks beautiful, and feels wonderful.  But not the right choice for this style dress.

This dress is not worth a $100 to me.  It's not even worth the effort to store search a 2 since the smaller sizes are now sold out online  If this gets a 2nd cut to $40 I might keep an eye out for a POP BACK in size 2. But I'm not convinced I would like it enough at $40.

Next review is the Draped Denim Dress which I absolutely love.  I am wearing it to today!

Wow thanks for that review! Guess I won't be getting that dress after all. The Draped Denim looks great on you!

It may work fine for you sized down. You're tiny though. Do you think you are sized out of the dress completely?

Well, the way you describe it, it sounds kind of like the Japonica dress where the style doesn't quite work with the fabric. I have wide shoulders so I could try a 4 but it might be bulky in other areas. If I sized down, I think the waist line might be too high for my torso (I pretty much have this problem with all dresses). Maybe if it pops back and gets a 2nd cut, I might try it. I do really like the print and the colors.
I agree. There will be a lot of returns for this dress. But it might take a month or more for Anthro to make a second cut. The most they will cut will be to $40. I think it will be fine for wide shoulders. And you can always cut the Obi Belt off and use it for something else. Would be cute to use like a head band scarf. Then try a wider belt with the dress.

I love the silky print to. I was really hoping I would love it like the Fragrant Valley. Oh well.

Love the draped denim on you. I agree that the Fluttering Obi dress is a bit potato-sackish on your frame. Hooray for saving money!!

Incidentally, I love those tights! They look especially great with the Fluttering Obi.

I put the Turquoise tights on so I could quickly change from the Obi to the denim dress after taking pictures this morning then heading to work. I thought the color worked great for both dresses.

oh bummer, the print is just so great on you. I hate it when that happens with a piece I love!
Thanks for the review on the Obi dress. Guess I won't be getting it since I am usually a size 0 or 2 in Anthro dresses. Surprised you like the draping denim. I was concerned that the denim fabric might be too stiff.

The denim isn't stiff at all Diem. I ordered the Draped Denim in a Small. But I may have to return it for am XS. It's big in the bodice and under the arm holes.

That means that draped denim will be too big for me since I am usually an XS.
I would think so!

I also own the fluttering obi dress. I decided to keep it after 1 pair of spanx later that made it look a lot better on my frame (size 8). They definitely could have upped the quality a bit for the price. And don't get me started on the belt. I was able to un-stitch it from the back (very, very carefully), but I've paired it with another belt I have. There's a pic on my blog from 2 posts ago if you'd like to see :).

Hmm well the colours of the dress are lovely, but yeah, not so good. I wonder if it makes it to second cut, if it would work on me....I really do love those tights with both dresses, such a great pop of colour :) Hope your day went well Laura!

The whole problem with my thumb is so time consuming. Try putting on tights without being able to use a pincer grasp on both hands. Haha! NOT FUN! It takes twice as long to do anything.

Arghhh!

Shame about the CLC dress, Laura. The print is actually quite nice. I agree with you though about the dress being too big. You definitely need a smaller size. On the other hand, the draped denim dress fits you nicely everywhere! That dress looks like it has so much potential for layering and accessorising. I loved how you paired it with brown accessories!

Jen, the Draped Denim is also too big. I'm going to return it. I think it will get a second cut. Then I can grab it in an XS.

It's also too big. I think it will get a second cut by next sale day. I will re-order in an XS.
