Jamie's Four For In The Trees! More Rock Inspiration Please!

I seriously almost forgot to give credit to the fabulous Jamie of Thrifty Threads who must have spent hours if not days re-creating not one, but FOUR gloreous outfits for me using our In The Trees Skirt by Floreat and my Virtural Closet.

There are those times when you adore your outfit so much, that you are positive it's your favorite pairing.  That's how I felt about this outfit. Then I hit hard, cold reality, that maybe others were looking sideways and wondering who I thought I was. Seriously!  Do I look like a little Swiss Girl?

Amber and Mammoth Tusk Woven Bracelet - Gift from my Mom - from Alaska

My Wightwick Manor Dress by Maeve finally arrived after 3.5 weeks.  I ADORE this dress.  It fits!  It flatters! It has pockets!  It hits at all the right places. It's my first Anthro Dress with sleeves past the elbow. The second could be the D'armee, if it ever goes on sale. It's machine wash, tumble dry!  Needs just a light wave from my magic wand to remove the wrinkles. Maeve is a miracle worker.

So I threw this very old sweater on over the dress.  This is Anthro's Lion Gate Sweater by Sleeping on Snow.   It makes me look even more like a Little Swiss Girl from the Alps.  Remember the movie Heidi?  The hood probably doesn't help.

I do love Anthro's Gift Bow Belt over the Dress.  But a wider belt would be more flattering.  I've had this belt for months.  This is the first time I have worn it.

This little Anthro necklace by Nakamol is the Tree Of Life Necklace .  You can purchase this same necklace from Nakamol HERE. The necklace is Gold Fill and has held up very well for 2.5 years.  The metal has not tarnish at all.  And I leave it hanging out in the open.  So this is a recommended necklace.

Gift Bow Belt Neutral - Anthro Orig $24 Sale $15 - Oct 2010

The Bracelet is a nice chunk of Amber with a lot of little Amber beads woven using some sort of string. It's about 15 years old, and very nicely made. BTW, Amber is fossilized tree sap that often will have an insect, leaf or even a flower perfectly immortalized in the stone.  Mine is Bug Free.  There is one large Mammoth Tusk bead and two smaller that comprise the clasp that wraps around the back.  You can barely see the White edge of one of the beads.  My Mother purchased this bracelet while on a cruse stop-over in Alaska.

Finally, here they are. Anthro's Saddle Seat Boots by Due Farina of Italy I scored on Pop Back from Anthro for $40.  The original price was $328. Thanks to Kieko of Keiko's TanPoPo who sent me a text one morning to inform that the boots had Popped Back in an 8.5.

See Keiko wearing the Saddle Seat Boots in a Mini Fashion Show HERE

It's just too divine to miss.  So please check out her five stylings.  I have two of the dresses she used.  So I am feeling a few instances of oufit idea borrowing coming on.  And Keiko also has the Wightwick Manor.  Will she borrow today's outfit idea?  She and I gravitate to the same Anthro Items fairly consistently.

Today's outfit warrented by first and favorite handbag by OK, Anthro's Sepia Crocus Bag or Dark Multi Stem Shiny Laminate Tote by Orla Kiely AW08.

If you haven't read about my Self Imposed Styling Challenge using your photos as Inspiration, here are the Guidelines:

A SELF IMPOSED CHALLENGE USING YOUR INSPIRATION!

Most of you know that my field of study was Geology. What comes to mind when you think of Geology?  Study of the Earth?  OK!  What else?

The study of ROCKS and MINERALS!

I want you, my Readers and Fellow Bloggers to send me photos of a ROCK or a MINERAL under natural lighting from the Internet or elsewhere. Please make sure that you know what the name of the specimen is.

GUIDELINES:

1.  I am going to re-mix an outfit each week on Wednesday for 6 weeks from one of your chosen submissions.

2.  Starting today though Saturday of the following week (that gives me Sunday to plan Wednesday's outfit) you can send me one submission each.  I thought I would give you some extra time for the first submissions.  Next Wednesday I will re-mix my own example to get started. My example will be number 1 of 6. The following Wednesday I will re-mix one of your photo submissions.  I get to pick which Rock or Mineral to use as inspiration from your pool of submissions for the week.

3.  After re-mix number 2 from your first submissions.  You will have Sunday through Saturday to submit photos for Wednesday's ROCK and MINERAL inspired Re-Mix. Again, giving me a Weekend day (Sunday) to choose and plan.

Note: You may only get 2 posts a week out of me for the entire 6 weeks.  We will see how it goes.  As it stands I spend my entire weekend planning posts and making comment rounds.  I barely have time to plan a wardrobe and shop.  A good thing no?

3. Please email me a photo of the specimen under natural lighting, and please no URBANITE.  lauramartinsemail@yahoo.com

THE KICKER:

Do not tell me what the name of the specimen is.

I have to identify it.  Please don't give me some strange mixture of stuff.  Because I only know the basics.

After 6 weeks, we will vote on the best specimen and it's matching outfit.

To date I have one submission from Lisa of Confessions of a Call Center Gal.  And it's fabulous.

THE INCENTIVE:

The winner will get something very special that I hinted about HERE.  So this is my first Giveaway ever.  This is not for the purpose of gaining Followers. You don't have to blog about the Challenge or Giveaway unless you want to, just to make it more fun.

So start sending me those photo specimens.  I think this will be a lot of fun, plus I will get to brush up on my Rock and Mineral identification.  And I plan to bring Heidi in on it when I need a little help.  So I hope she's paying attention.

To get started, this is my Rock I picked up while doing my Summer Geology Field Camp in Utah, and my choice for next Wednesday's outfit.  You will find out the rock name then.

Gee Mandy! Thank you do much. You can always pull a photo off the Internet. That way it will be identified.

This dress is perfect on you, Laura. I'll have to break mine out more often. $40 for a pair of boots! What a bargain.

I'm not sure about the boots, but at least I didn't pay $328 for them.

Hope you are doing well.

I do love the outfit! I like the Wightwick Manor even more now that you showed a closeup of the print, but the 4 has been out for a while online. 6 might work...

Terrie, This is a 4. Maeve runs large. A 6 might me too large.

Awww, no urbanite?? Kidding! I didn't even know that's what made up my patio! Google had to help me out. Could you educate me on the difference between a rock/mineral and a stone.. if there is one? Because the latter is all I collect, housed in rings of course. I own some really interesting agate and kyanite (I hope that's right, spell check is giving me the thumbs down) that I'd love to see what you can do with but again, I'm not sure if these fit into the rules of the game.

Also, this dress looks amazing on you! The belt is fantastic with it, like they were meant to be! If you could, I'd like for you to work with my favorite clothing labels in matching belts to dresses because their pairings never look this lovely (and I'm always stuck paying for some rinky dink belt attached to a dress that deserves something better). Sound good?

Send me anything. A rock is a mixture of minerals that is either Sedimentary, Igneous or Metamorphic. A mineral is a crystal growth. A combo of minerals makes up a rock. A stone has been tumbled about and smoothed and is normally igneous. Like granite which is intrusive . Meaning it was melted underground and then the molten mass forced into an opening. Then solidified into a batholith. The Sierra Nevada Mountains are batholiths.

I could go on and on. Send me photos of the dresses. I actually don't have many belts. I choose carefully when I buy them on sale. I usually look for colors or a style or width I don't already have.

Oh I LOVE this outfit, Laura. This may be one of my favorite outfits of yours. It's understated and yet so you. You do NOT look like a swiss milkmaid.

Those boots are beautiful...I can't BELIEVE you scored them for $40!!!

When I was a child, my Mom used to put by hair in ring curls, and I looked just like Shirley Temple. As an adult, I look more like the child star than she does grown up. Ha-ha!

Laura, I've just sent you a rock for guessing! I hope it qualifies. I can resend another one!
I love this pairing as much as you and everyone else does. Everything just ties in together nicely and seamlessly. The boots add so much character - i didn't even realise the Heidi thing! AS you know, i love bows, and i think your bow belt is so cute!
I love the dress on you! It was a bit of an impulse buy for me, but I am so happy with it! It has quickly become one of my favorites. Love the belt you paired with it (and the boots, of course)!

What a great idea for a contest. I will have to see what I can come up with:)
Laura, I almost fell off my chair when I saw this. First -- because you gave me such a lovely shoutout, and added my stylings to your virtual closet. Thanks so much! And second -- because this outfit made me gasp in all its fashion fabulousness. And the Wightwick Manor dress looks truly stunning on you. Well worth the wait, I would say. I am kicking myself rather violently for not buying that one. THe second cord dress that I passed on, much to my dismay (the first was the Southward Stop). And third -- because your boots were $40. WHATTTT? You're going to give me a run for my money in the thriftiness department. I love the contrast of the bold black lacing against the tan leather/suede. And the large buttons on your Lion Gate sweater give the whole look a very modern feel. Enjoy the weekend!

Jamie,

Would you mind if I added a few photos from the post of your stylings? I didn't really get those boots as a thrift. Just on 2nd cut.

So, speaking of these boots, I saw THREE pairs of them at the SoHo anthro last night! Size 7.5, 8, and 8.5 if anyone is looking. I couldn't get them closed over my calves, so I will have to pass on them sadly. :-(

Thanks for the boot info JG. I worried about the same problem. But they worked even with tights and a thin pair of socks. I wonder if you can stretch them.
