Inspiration That Rocks! Style #5 - Petrified Wood!

Petrified Wood - Arizona

This weeks Inspiration That Rocks Outfit is brought to you by Petrified Wood

Petrified Wood is the fossilized remains of terrestrial vegetation, or the result of a tree having turned completely into stone by the process of permineralization. All the organic materials have been replaced with minerals while retaining the original structure of the wood.

Reader Submitted Petrified Wood Photo

This photo was sent by a Reader that has submitted a photo every week since this Series began. She is also from my home town of Bakersfield CA. I applaud her for her dedication.

Molded and Melded Tee - by C Keer - Anthro Orig $48 Sale $29 - Oct 2010
Washi Wrap Skirt - by Fei - Anthro Orig $88 Sale $40 - March 2011
Sulky Belt in Brown - Anthro $48 - Feb 2011
Tour De Jewels Necklace - Anthro Orig $38 Sale $20 - March 2011

The first item I chose for this outfit was inspired by the impression of what looks like a flower in the very center of the slice of Petrified Wood.  This is the heart of the tree from which concentric growth rings form. Think concentric growth rings...

All the above inspiration was captured by Anthro's TOUR DE JEWELS NECKLACE.  The next piece to fall into place was the WASHI WRAP SKIRT by Fei.  Both the Necklace and Skirt were purchased during last Wednesday's Anthro Sale. I had no idea when I ordered these from last weeks Anthro's sale, they would become inspired items for this weeks Outfit.

Shop Anthro's WASHI WRAP SKIRT on sale HERE.
The TOUR DE JEWELS NECKLACE sold out the same day.

Here I am on the Kern River Weir prancing about taking photos of myself.  Of course to me and you, I'm simply having fun photographing an outfit.  But to everyone else on that bridge, I'm an egotistical maniac. So, down the bridge on bikes comes one of the Big Bosses and an old friend and colleague, Thanh.  To my dismay, they saw me and stopped! I was mortified!

I explained that I was dressed like Petrified Wood.  Do you think they understood what I meant?

Doubtfull!

Everything that comes by way of  Inspiration is quick and easy.  Everything else is time consuming LOGIC.  In a nut shell, the rest of the outfit slowly came together in a series of short styling sessions.  The most difficult piece was the top.  I only have two Grey tops.  I went back and forth between them along with an Ivory Tank.  Finally deciding on THE MOLDED AND MELDED TEE.

Molded and Melded Tee - by C Keer - Anthro Orig $48 Sale $29 - Oct 2010
Washi Wrap Skirt - by Fei - Anthro Orig $88 Sale $40 - March 2011
Drawn To You Cardi - by Lilka - Anthro Orig $68 Sale $40 - Jan 2011
Sulky Belt in Brown - Anthro $48 - Feb 2011
Striped Tight Red Motif - by Eloise - Anthro Orig $18, Sale $10 - Apr 2010
Malted Barley Boots - by Area Forte - Anthro Orig $378, Sale $190  - Apr 2010
Tour De Jewels Necklace - Anthro Orig $38 Sale $20 - March 2011

The Golden Brown SULKY BELT compliments the Dark Orange Skirt and Grey M and M Top.  This Belt sold out online a few weeks ago.  I ordered it from a Store. And that color just happened to be a perfect match to the MALTED MARLEY BOOTS by Area Forte. I honestly thought the STRIPED TIGHTS in Red (actually pinkish-orange) would be too much Orange below the skirt.  But the fact is they tie the Skirt to the Boots smoothly. I've worn this combination of Boots and Tights before HERE.

Malted Barley Boots - by Area Forte - Anthro Orig $378, Sale $190 - From Oct 2009 Hidden Catalog Stock - Apr 2010

The last and final item was a struggle to match with any of the three tops I tried.  In attempting to stay in step with the Season, I wanted to include a Jacket, Sweater or Cardi, despite the fact that it was a balmy 70 degrees on the Weir.  In addition, I felt the need to round out the color scheme with White or Ivory from the Petrified Wood.  I finally hit on the DRAWN TO YOU CARDI by Lilka.

That's a wrap for Inspiration That Rocks STYLE #5 for Petrified Wood.

I don't comment here, but I have to say that I LOVE the grey Molded and Melded with that color skirt. Gorgeous color combo!

I think you are a brave, confident, and beautiful woman- unfortunately, I am not yet confident enough to photograph myself in public places- I really admire you and love your style!!!!! Your outfit is so stylish, well done!
And thank you for visiting and following my blog.

Wow! I don't know what to say. Thank you doesn't seem like enough. Your comment alone has made my day.

The public photo taking is so difficult to explain. I am certainly dedicated to my blog. And I want to present myself and my ideas in an entertaining but flattering way. At the same time I would never do this unless I'm having fun. There's a certain level of child like goofiness that seems to work in public places.

What shocked me about the encounter with my boss, was that he was grinning like an idiot and laughing about the whole situation. I certainly never mentioned anything about a blog. Not ever!

ooh, so jealous of your malted barley boots! a couple months ago, they popped up in my size on my wishlist, but i doubt they were actually available... must have been a glitch (they are back to being out of stock).

When I bought these last year in April, they were a Pop Back from the 2009 Catalog. I honestly didn't expect them to ship, let alone be so comfortable. You should have ordered them. These were my very first pair of Anthro boots.

Your petrified wood inspired outfit is lovely! It is like you chose a combination you may not have otherwise assembled, but you did and everything looks really nice together. Beauty from chaos inspired by nature, perhaps. My daughter and I love to rollerblade over that bridge at Riverwalk Park, so I love the choice of settings!

I would speculate that if I were to ask my male colleagues here at the office if they know what an Anthropologie blog is, none of them would know. (Although it looks like perhaps they all read the same blue jeans, button down shirt and brown belt blog) Have a premium day!

I used to frequent the weir when I would run in the afternoons. The bike path is well used by Oxy employees. I was surprised to see so many people, running, walking, biking and even fishing at the ends. Not to mention seeing a fellow employee and one of my bosses. Yikes! Glad you like my choice of locations. I tried to style an outfit from the gorgeous Purple, and Blue layered rock with Black banding you submitted. I finally had to admit defeat after a couple hours. It was then I turned to your Petrified Wood Photo.

That Blue Shirt, Tan Slacks and Brown Belt Blog is obviously the work of a male Geologist or Engineer. Someone threw in the Steel Toed Boots too. Oh yeh! I was wearing those all day yesterday while out in the oil field for safety sweeps.

I really like this outfit! You're so brave to take pictures in such public places! Yay for you!
Oh Laura, I read your entire post and all the comments and had a good laugh. Yes, I would be absolutely mortified if anyone from my work saw me posing and taking pics of myself. None of 'em know I even have a blog. They just wouldn't get it, know what I mean? Hee-hee, that's a riot that you told him you're dressed as a Petrified Forest. I echo what the other reader said - you are strong, confident and beautiful. I wish I had your kahunas. I'm lacking seriously in confidence but blogging has been helping me come out of my turtle shell a bit more.
And I always thought you wore Anthro to work, it's fascinating that you don blue jeans and steel toed boots. Caterpillar brand? I guess I never realized you worked out in the fields. Would love to hear more about your job on your blog. Care to share?
And as always Laura, you amaze me w. your creativity. A lovely, lovely outfit. I think the necklace tied it all together.

Oh no Lisa! I do wear Anthro to work. Only a few times a year I need to don the steel toed boots. I used to work out in the boondocks where our leases operate. But we moved into town 2 years ago. And I was so happy we did. Our office is lovely and located on a huge Park next to the River. But it's nice to get out of the office and up close and personal with drillers, oil rigs, foot hills, and wild life. I wore an Anthro coat I use in the field. Ha-ha! You can see me wearing Anthro and PPE (personal safety equipment) here... <a href="http://anthroclosetchaos.blogspot.com/2010/09/one-jacquline-falling-ribbon-two-stunt.html.

oh, this outfit is just terrific Laura. What a gorgeous interpretation of the rock!
I laughed out at the part about you being an " egotistical maniac" to everyone else on the bridge! That's how i would have felt too :-) I admire your confidence, and your happy spirit. You look like you are on cloud nine! I wish i had that kind of courage. Don't worry, we totally "get" you and the fact that you are dresssed like Petrified Wood - we understand..hehe

Ha-ha! Thanks for getting me Jen. That fact plus your support and understanding are all the encouragement I need to keep looking like a fool to everyone else.

So glad to see you wearing the Tour de Jewels necklace. Absolutely perfect for this outfit -- wonderful choice! And those tights just scream "Petrified Wood", now that I've seen them paired with this outfit. And the gathering on your blouse really emulates the pattern in the wood. I had a good chuckle when I read the part about running into one of your coworkers. You know, back in August, I tried to explain to people that I was dressing like Strawberry Napoleon or German Chocolate Cake. Not sure my meaning was clear : )

Running into a coworker was nothing compared to the the boss. I thought I would completely blow it. And even now, I can't remember exactly what I said to him. Except for being dressed like Petrified Wood. I couldn't figure out why he kept grinning at me like a fool, When I knew it was really me that looked the fool out there. At first I didn't even know who he was with the helmet and a recently grown beard. I used to be this guys Technician many years ago. With the same Company. Go figure!

Your boss is a cutie! And more importantly, this has to be one of my favorite outfits you've put together. I am LOVING the color palette.

That is NOT the boss. He is a fellow employee though.

Thank you Carly, I really had a blast with this challenge. But it is tons of work. I'm glad it's over, but in the back of my mind, I'm already planning the next series.
