No Anthro Zone Reviews! Magellan and Land of Springs Dress - Should They Stay or Should They Go?

I ordered Anthro's Magellan Dress and Land of Springs Dress fully intending to return them and wait for sale. BIG MISTAKE! My heart tells me to keep them, while my logical side knows they will eventually go on sale. Which would be a savings of about $140.

Should They Stay or Should They Go?

Land of Springs Dress
by Weston Wear $118
Magellan Dress
 by Maeve $158

Please help me decide!

No Anthro Zone Review - The Magellan Dress by Maeve - $158

The reviews speak for this awesome dress.  Since this is an Anthro Brand (Maeve), there are plenty of dresses in my size. Currently over 99 in stock.  It's been around for a few weeks. If I return this dress, I'm fairly certain my size will still be available if this dress goes on sale. The reviews are stellar.  But despite the fact that it's a great dress, it doesn't appear to be flying out the door online.  YET!

SIZE: I ordered a size SIX. I'm a FOUR in most Anthro Brands. TTS for Maeve.  Or order one size up from your average size. 5'6" Tall, 130 lbs, 35-28-36, 34C, larger than average rig cage, narrow across shoulders.  Low waisted!

FIT: INCREDIBLE!

No support or boning needed.

The top of the bodice is lined with sticky. The back has an inset elastic panel for comfort. Removable straps button in with two button holes to adjust strap length. The neckline is modest.  Can you believe that?

The overall length is at the knee.  The only fit issue I would have changed is to lower the waistline an inch or two.   The Neutral Take Away Belt (currently on sale) worn low, holds the slightly high waisted, poofy skirt down to give me some added length.

Take Away Belt and Preserved Gypsophila Necklace with Magellan Dress
Shop Anthro's TAKE AWAY BELT on Sale HERE

DETAILS:
1. Side zip equipped with BUTTON/LOOP half way up the inside.  This draws the two sides of the zipper together, making it a snap to zip the dress up.
2. POCKETS!
3. Bodice and skirt fully lined.
4. 100% Cotton/Linen Blend that is MACHINE WASH - TUMBLE DRY.  Needs pressing.
5. Navy Blue Piping throughout
6. Three coordinating Fabrics. Navy Blue and Tan, with Yellow in the waistband and print
7. No support needed
8. Belt can wrap twice. Appears to be woven plastic coated string in Black and White.  A little stiff, but it works.
9. Size up if Busty.

Recommended! The details alone make this dress worth a FULL PRICE splurge. I have already identified several styles for outfits  With strappy sandals in Yellow, Tan, Red or Navy.  A short Vintage Cardi.  I love the idea of Neutral accessories, like the Preserved Gypsophila Necklace.

No Anthro Zone Review - The Preserved Gypsophila Necklace
by De Jarnette - $68

Gypsophila is Baby's Breath!

Anthro's Ephemera Necklace
by De Jarnette with Perthshire Dress
I adore my Ephemera Necklace by De Jarnette of New Orleans. There is no doubt the multiple clusters of Glass Bubbles act as a clear statement. There are times that I have wished for a similar, delicate, less statement Necklace.

DETAILS: The online photo makes this Necklace look longer than it is.  This is a short 18 inch chain.  The base metal is brass but looks like Sterling.  Coming from De Jarnette, I expect the chain to maintain it's shine like the clasp of the Ephemera.

BUBBLES:  The Ephemera is made from opalescent glass, while this Necklace is made from clear glass so the Baby's Breath is clearly visible.

Shop Anthro's PRESERVED GYPSOPHILA NECKLACE HERE.

Preserved Gypsophila Necklace with
Magellan Dress
Preserved Gypsophila Necklace with
Land of Springs Dress

ISSUE: The chain moves freely between the bubbles and will break the delicate Baby's Breath over time.

Recommended! Treat with care!

This Necklace is delicate and provides a versatile Neutral Tone for Spring/Summer Styles.  I had no problem pairing it up with The Magellan Dress and the Land of Springs Dress.

No Anthro Zone Review - The Land of Springs Dress by Weston Wear - $118

This could be the first Striped Dress I have ever owned. The dress is a 4 star for online reviews.  I was on the fence when I discovered it's Dry Clean and the fabric is Rayon/Polyester.  After seeing this styled on the model, I was intrigued by the cut. Just the fact that the draped, striped bodice flatters busty me, is enough to make me want it now.

SIZE:  Most reviews suggest TTS. I ordered my normal SMALL from online. 5'6" Tall, 130 lbs, 35-28-36, 34C, narrow across shoulders.

FIT: Dresses that sit at my low waist, elongate my torso and offer a more flattering fit. This dress does exactly that. The bodice fits nicely too.  Not too drapey, or loose.

The draped stripes do not emphasize a larger bust.

WooHoo!  Those are some WHITE LEGS!  Rarely, do I find a dress that is flattering on me from the side

DETAILS:
1.  Flattering on BUSTY BABES!
2.  Adjustable knots at shoulders.
3.  Skirt is fully lined, but not anchored to shell. I am considering tacking each side at the hemline so the lining will not ride up.
4. The bodice is double lined with the same striped fabric.
5. The back is a single layer.
6. No Pockets.
7. TTS
8. Dry Clean
9. Rayon/Polyester

This could also be the first Weston Wear I have ever owned

Fully recommend! Also looks incredible with the Take Away Belt and Preserved Gypsophila Necklace. The fabric may not be for everyone. I love the fact that it's entirely different from anything in my closet. As a BUSTY GAL, this dress is worth a FULL PRICE splurge because the stripes and side view are flattering.

Land of Springs Dress with Preserved Gypsophila Necklace
and Take Away Belt
Everything in this order lined up perfectly.  Much better than I ever expected. Both dresses fit great and are flattering. The Belt and Necklace work well together as accessories for each dress.

The weather is already warming to near 80 degrees F.

Now I'm having second thoughts about returning the dresses and waiting for sale.

But the potential saving of $140 is plaguing me with guilt.

I know all you ladies have experienced emotional attachments to clothing at one time or another.  The heart gets in the way of making rational decisions.  This isn't something that happens often for me. So I need your help either way.

Should They Stay or Should They Go?

I've already decided the Preserved Gypsophila Necklace is a keeper. So don't try to talk me out of the necklace.

I think both dresses are really great on you, but I'd return the Land of Springs Dress and wait for sale. The Magellan dress is really stunning on you, and you're right, the fit is amazing. The other one doesn't look quite as special, and I think it will probably make it to sale. I tried the Magellan dress on myself a few days ago and I love it, too. I'm waiting for sale, but you're making me miss it already!

I like the first dress, not the second. I tried on the second dress and really didn't like it. The material was awful to me. It didn't seem like it would be pleasant to wear on a hot day. I thought the dress would be much nicer if it was 100% cotton or a nicer jersey stretch material. I wanted to like the dress because the model shot was fantastic but on me, the fit didn't really do anything for my figure. I also think the fit on the first dress is terrific for your figure...much more than the second dress.

Laura, I've been reading your blog for a while but this is my first time posting. I like both dresses on you. I've walked by both dresses in stores and not given them a second look. After seeing them on you, I want to try them on.

Eep - I am going to rock the boat and vote for the second, striped dress. I adore it! Maybe it is because I could see myself in it more so than the first one and I really like stripes so I am biased, but I really like how it flatters you! How is the material, though? I adore Weston Wear's prints but it seems like the material doesn't hold up over time (pills, etc). That would be my only reservation. Love the necklace. P.S. I bought that belt too and really like it with my maxi skirts! Just wish it was a bit softer leather!

That necklace is gorgeous! I like both dresses on you. The Megellan is my favorite - I love the colors, patterns, cut, etc. The Land of Springs Dress is nice too. It is very flattering on you, but I don't think that will be the case for most people, so I imagine it will hit sale fairly soon. So, I would return the Land of Springs and wait for sale. Keep the Megellan so you can wear it now:)

I love love love the Magellan dress on you. I haven't tried it on yet, but it is definitely on my wish list. If you are going for a full price splurge that dress would be it. The Land of Sprigs dress is not nearly as special and I think it is a piece that could wait for sale. It looks nice on you, but it doesn't knock my socks off like the Magellan dress.
Magellan Dress
by Maeve $158 is definitely keeper!! The color brighten your face and you look AWESOME!

Hi Laura,
i`ve been reading your blog for a while but this is my first time commenting too :)
first off, what lovely reviews! They`re so informative- thank you so much!
I too think the first dress looks great on you. The colour does wonders and the fit is great, especially up at the bust. I personally love the second dress (stripes are my weakness) but I think the colour washes you out a smidge, and i think it looks better from the side view than the front. Overall, they`re both great dresses but I`ll have to vote for the first becuase of the overall cut and colour. I think the pattern is also more `wow` and it is more versatile- wearable in spring, summer, and maybe even fall whereas the second has a definite `summer` vibe.

Just looked at the Enchanting Entomologist Dress. How smashing! That is a unique, special dress! I can picture wearing this dress and having that fun, flirty feeling. Yes, return the other two!

Laura-- I'm a newish reader and first time commenter. I really enjoy your blog and your reviews. I'm a big reviewer on Anthro's website and now after reading your blog I recognize your "voice" and your reviews on Anthro's site. :) I know you've probably decided to return both dresses in favor of the lovely Entomologist dress, but I wanted to say that both dresses you reviewed look great and you can't go wrong with either one! I'm partial to the Magellan Dress myself, but that's probably because it was a full price splurge for me. I really like the Land of Springs Dress on you-- it works on your body type, is on trend without being to trendy, and seems very versatile. My reservation with that one would be the fabric. I have heard that WW doesn't always wear well and can pill. I hate that, so that would be a big concern for me. I might make an exception at sale price, however. If I was very conflicted, I might just hold onto both for a bit since Anthro's return policy is so generous. That way, you can make a final decision once the pretty yellow one arrives and you can see how that one fits. Whatever you decide you'll look fabulous! Good luck!

In my opinion, the Magellan dress would be more flattering if the waist and the length were a couple inches lower. I liked the Land of Spring Dress on you. The neckline is very flattering and the lower half is complimentary to your figure. Casual and perfect weight for hot valley weather, too. The necklace is precious! Love the belt, too. Can you fit your iphone in it?
Keep that Enchanting Entomologist Dress in your net!!! It's really cute!

When I first set eyes on this post and the first two pictures of the dresses, I thought immediately "of course I would choose the Magellan dress over the land of Springs dress!". But having seen them both on you, I'm really warming up to the Land of Springs dress. It doesn't give you that 50s silhouette that the Magellan does, however, it sits nicely on your figure and gives off a relaxed and laid-back vibe. I think it would look terrific with ankle booties.
I too saw the yellow butterfly (i can't say that word - Entomologist) CLC dress on modcloth and got a bit excited. But $220....eeek. I'd love to see reviews first!

I honestly love both dresses on you. I was going to try to choose one but I can't - they are so different and flattering in different ways. The first dress shows off your teeny tiny waist, and the second dress is just so effortlessly chic. I think you'd get a lot of wear out of them... they both seem incredibly easy to wear and they look fabulous! So although I'm no help at all.... I say keep them both lol :)

I think both dresses look great on you and fit you really well, but that belt is dorky!

You look really awesome in the blue dress... very flattering I think... :)

Can I ask how do you find out how many of an item is in stock?

Laura, I freaking LOVE the Magellan Dress on you. It's nothing short of looking custom made for you! And thank you for bringing that gorgeous Gysophila Necklace to my attention. It's now sitting patiently on my wishlist. Would have never noticed it...I tend to gravitate towards the big and bold jewelry. This is so dainty and delicate while still being dainty, interesting and smart. A killer combination! Please tell me you kept the Magellan?!
