Inspiration That Rocks! #6 Labradorite!

UPDATE: Should They Stay or Should They Go?

It seems I was hit with the Antho Domino Effect (ADE) by Jen of Vintageglammz.  You see, I clicked everyone's link to their favorite things in the comment section of Jess's Blog "What Jess Likes" .  Who wouldn't want to see everyone's favorite thing?

When I clicked on Jen's link ........I found my new favorite thing.

Try it for yourself by clicking HERE.

Now you know why I had to send Anthro's Magellan Dress and Land of Springs Dress on their merry way.  I will pick them up later on sale.

I'm normally organized to the extent of obsession.  To my dismay, I deleted the email, and along with it the email address, of the owner of today's Inspiration That Rocks Photo.

*****Leana,  Please reply to lauramartinsemail@yahoo.com*****

Inspiration That Rocks!  Style #6

Leana's Photo Submission of Labradorite
Labradorite is a feldspar comprised of a silicate mineral. The beautiful colors are a product of a unique light refracting characteristic known as Labradorescence.  Some types of Labradorite are known as moonstone or sunstone.

Two weeks ago, I was attempting to muster inspiration from Rock and Mineral Photos.   It was then I noticed a common pattern and color in both the Labradorite and Anthro's DRAPED DENIM DRESS by Maeve.

Shop Anthro's Draped Denim Dress by Maeve on a 2nd cut HERE.
Since I re-ordered this dress, I was able to pick up a 2nd cut credit.

When the rest of the outfit didn't materialize as easily, I filed this new found info away in my neatly organized brain (ha-ha) for future consideration.

When I started Inspiration That Rocks 5 weeks ago, I had this crazy idea to include background that contains inspired characteristics. In the above photo, it's easy to see the common elongated pattern and color in the Oilfield Equipment Display?

I couldn't have been happier if I had a 3 foot slab of Labradorite behind me

Parted Petals Cardi - by Field and Flower - Anthro Orig $98 Sale $50 - May 2010

A few days ago, the DRAPED DENIM DRESS arrived as a re-order in an XS. Now was the time to further investigate the possibilities.

I quickly zoned in on Anthro's PARTED PETALS CARDI by Field and Flower.  I've worn this Cardi once in 10 months. Why?  It looks best buttoned, but tends to ride up above my chest.  You can see a noticeable wrinkle in almost every photo. Those are the times I forgot to pull the sides down.  I just don't find it very flattering on BUSTY ME.  Cute yes!

What is obvious in the Cardi, is the Blue Color Palette.  I know this doesn't compare to the gorgeous translucent quality of the Labradorescense in the Mineral. Perhaps I will find an accessory that has this characteristic.

The rest of the outfit is more logical than it is inspired.

You really must click on the Blue link to fully appreciate the belt.  The best part is hidden under the Cardi. I picked the belt up on second cut.  From $298 down to $70.  Woohoo!

1940's Art Deco Set by Mazer Bros  - Belonged to Grandmother
This qualifies as the promised translucent accessory!

MAZER BROS circa 1940's Art Deco rhodium-plated necklace of alternating emerald-cut and square rhinestones with ornate fold-over clasp set with clear round and baguette rhinestones. Phew!

The stones are glass or what is commonly referred to as PASTE.

Great outfit! I know I've mentioned this before, but I really enjoy reading about the process you go through to come up with the outfits. It's very interesting and very helpful. I love all of the details - your beautiful necklace, awesome bag, and gorgeous shoes!

Oh, oh, thank you Kristin. I tend to explain why I chose particular items even when it's a daily outfit.

Gorgeous rock and outfit! I love how this outfit came together. The color palette is so soothing, and yet still spring-y. I clicked on that link! And, I can see why you and Jen have new favorites!

Hi Lori, It was a gorgeous 75 degrees F last Saturday. No tights! I figured Spring is just around the corner.

Really cute outfit!!! Love the flower cardigan with that denim dress! And Grandma's jewelry really topped things off. Hope those ghosts at Pioneer Village didn't interfere with your photoshoot ;)

I gasped with delight when I saw the Labrodite picture. What a gorgeous specimen. I have never heard of it before, though I believe I have heard of moonstone. It reminds me a bit of a more bluesy version of abalone shell.

And the Draped Denim dress works perfectly with this. I had never noticed the pleating on the side until your close-up images. I am not generally a fan of denim except when used to create a pair of pants, but I might have to rethink that stance, especially after seeing your stylish ensemble here.

I think the Parted Petals cardi looks adorable on you, but you know I can sympathize. You know, I have a thought -- I think that ALL Field Flower cardis are difficult for us well-endowed gals. Because as much as I love my two Blooming Lattice cardis, I must admit that, from an objective standpoint, they are not the most flattering on me. So sad...

Guess what? Supposed to be close to 70 degrees here tomorrow. Not quite a Cali 75, but not bad!

I haven't owned a denim dress in years. Even though the first dress was baggy under the arms and bust, I saw potential if the fit was right. But the reviews were all over the board on fit. I got lucky. The most important revelation was, the high waistband had to be covered with a belt. I'm glad it was too big, because I picked up credit for a second cut on the reorder.

I have Labradorite jewelry, but all of it is green. There's some beautiful stuff on Sundance, but too expensive. You can certainly find plenty on Etsy. And Labradorescence is unique to Labradorite only.

I'm not sure it's the brand of the sweater as it is more the placement of the appliqué. Looks fine snapped and buttoned up. Same problem with Moth's Precious Materials Cardi.

Oh, and I did click through to see what that gorgeous entymologist dress that has so enthralled you and Jen. I can DEFINITELY see why you decided to return your two other dress purchases to allow yourself to buy that gorgeous goldenrod dress. I am perversely thinking of a new possibility: "High Flying Fashion: Insect Inspired Outfits." But maybe your readers wouldn't be quite so willing to search out insect images to send you. Rocks and minerals are much prettier and far less squeal inducing!

I can see it now. Someone sends me an image of a cockroach as inspiration. Or a whole bunch of them. Yikes! Although I wouldn't mind a Monarch perhaps. Or a Lady Bug! What fun with Polka Dots! Now you've got me thinking about my next series. Please don't forget to come back and vote tomorrow.

I really love how you interpreted the inspiration! I think the folds on the dress are perfect with the striations on the specimen. The colours in the cardi really pick up the brighter blues in the Labradorite as well. And wow, I love your shoes and bag!! It has been a really great series and I enjoyed seeing how you interpreted the different rocks and minerals. Nicely done!

Thank you so much Leana. And thanks for sending the Labradorite image. I do actually have some Labradorite jewelry, but it's the Green variety. And I'm so happy you like how I interpreted the Mineral.

Thanks for voting Leana.

I responded to your comment on JG's blog, but thought I'd post it here too:
Hi Laura! Are you talking about the engineering iron ring? Just before graduation all engineers take part in a private ceremony where we get our ring to be worn on the small finger of our working hand. The ring is supposed to remind us of the great obligation and ethics associated with being an engineer. My understanding is that there are a few schools in the US that also have adopted a similar ceremony as well. Because my dad is an engineer and has been ringed he was able to give me my ring which was a pretty special experience.

The fiance says I ought to start taking pictures of my entire outfit, not just my shoes. Perhaps a style blog may be in the works in the future?
Ha-Ha! I always thought it had something to do with Canada alone. That must be it. I know a guy that is Canadian and an Engineer. Now it makes perfect sense. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

I say start a blog. They are so much fun. I'm a Geologist, so I work with many Engineers.

I just realized you are Leana Keto. The Labradorite Gal. I'm just a little slow to put 2 and 2 together.
