My Leifsdottir Scarf Scene! My Big Chick!

Here comes the Fastest Post in the West!

Anthro's Scarf Scene Dress by Leifsdottir! My favorite detail is the Romantic Slip under the Silk Shell. Wish you could see it.

Why haven't I worn this dress in two years?

#1 The dress has an elastic waistband that requires a Belt.  I didn't know how to belt over anything until last Summer.  Especially a dress. Does that sound weird? I now have the perfect belt. Anthro's Sliver Belt in Green.

Oh, and thanks to many of you for all those great belted outfits, I now have lessons...under my belt, so to speak.

the Cowl style neckline does Busty me no favors. Those folds of fabric had to go away.

#2  I wasn't impressed by the sagging cowl on this dress.  The folds of silk dipped too low and didn't sit nicely.  I restructured the loose neckline by pulling up the excess fabric in front, creating a pleat at each corner, and after some careful folding, I whip stitched the extra fabric behind the straps.  This created a modest, flattering, squared off neckline.  I probably would not have done this if I hadn't scored this dress on Pop Back at 2nd cut.

I could tell that the dress had been a return that had been worn more than once.

I love how the Green Ribbons peek out of the neckline of my sweater.

#3  Several times over the last 2 years I was prepared to wear this dress. But a Cardi is a must for the office. I tried different colors and styles.  None did the dress favors. Until this Morning.  I tried my Ruffled Celosio. I honestly thought no way, too much Coral.  I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome.  I balanced the Coral with the Green Belt and Wedges. For the first time in two years I am happy with this outfit. And I have Jamie of Thrifty Threads to thank.  She inspired with her outfit HERE.

I am hopping on a bus to have breakfast in the middle of California's Largest Oil and Gas Field.  We are celebrating the 100th Birthday of the discovery well. This field has the honors of a rich history.  Red Adare put out oil well fires here.  John Wayne stared in that movie.  The US Navy owned this field until we took over in 1998. No PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required today!  Happy Thursday!

You might be wondering about 'My Big Chick' in the Post Title. I was in a hurry and forgot to tell you...My Big Chick moved out. I'm happy and sad at the same time. But at age 23, it was time.

Love this outfit! May ask why you only started wearing belts last summer? I'm just curious! :)

To Anthropologieconnoisseur, Let me re-phrase the belt statement. I didn't wear belts with dresses. In fact, I rarely wore dresses. I did wear belts with pants, or clothing that included belt loops. Bloggers showed me the light. I even have a post of my first success belting a Cardi over a dress. I still struggle with using belts.

I ordered a vest on 2nd cut a few months ago (on pop-back) and it arrived smelling like someone had smoked 2 packs in it and than returned it! I called CS and they offered to pay for my dry cleaning, but I just couldn't stand the smell so back it went. :)
That was a great price on the dress, especially for Leifsdottir. Your outfit is adorable! Love the coral and green together.

Laura: That's such a cool story of how bloggers really can be such great inspiration!

Loraine,

Im doubtful dry cleaning could get that odor completely out. Something that bad should have been noticed and the item destroyed. I really wanted this dress. But it has taken 2 years for me to finally get the outfit to my liking. It's not a simple, versatile piece. Very complex! The bows make wearing a Cardi tricky. The bodice was too long even though I tied the straps up as close as possible. Even with a slip it's sheet. The color Pallete is difficult. Too little purple. Neon Lime- Green that is difficult to match. I used to think too much Coral. But Maybe not. More Cream would wash me out. Brown work OK. How would you style this Loraine.

I recently found your blog and love this outfit! You styled it so well. I started using belts, too, after admiring bloggers' outfits. I'm still adding to my belt collection, but I got my paws on the Snakebite belt and love it to death! Now I kind of want your green belt, haha.

I have seen the Sliver Belt for sale on Effortles Anthropologie's Monday Buy, Sell, Trade Post. eBay too. I have the Coral version too. I wear those two belts more than any other in my closet. I am finding that you can't have too many belts. All color, widths, textures. The quest never ends. I have heard that the snakebite and Looping Lanes are the best of Anthros Best Belts.

I am sorry! Last comment for Kavita. Such a very beautiful name.

Gorgeous outfit Laura! I love that you are courageous enough to alter your clothing. It turned out very well, the neckline looks great. I love it!

Hi Laura - There is NO WAY you have a 23 yr old chick!!! I was guessing you much younger than you are OR you had a baby at 5 years old! LOL. I don't even know where to start with your styling today! That neckline fix is ingenious! There is no way anyone could tell this is not how the dress was made. And I think the improvements are - well improvements! It looks much better with the fabric hanging they way it does now. The cardi is KILLER and I don't think you can ever have enough coral - but that is just me. The belt looks like it was made to live at the waist of the this dress. The icing for me - the SHOES with the toenails to match! You look impeccable and boho at the same time. LOVE IT! Have a great weekend! Cheers!xo

Hi Laura, You look so cute today! What a pretty dress! Hope you had fun at your breakfast oilfield party! Most of all, I hope you aren't too sad about your empty nest. Hope you do something super fun this weekend!

It definitely has a lot more structure with the belt and ribbons. Adorable the color combo going on here.

Laura, you are too sweet. As soon as I saw that you topped your scarf dress with a coral Ruffled Celosi, I literally giggled with glee. No such thing as too much coral, my friend! And then to see that I inspired this beautiful outfit?! To say that it made my day would be an understatement in the least. You did such a marvelous job reworking a troublesome dress. But the end result is so gorgeous that the extra effort really paid off (easy for me to say, right, since I wasn't the one putting in the extra effort!)

Hope you had a fantastic weekend!
