Anthro's Pom Flower Shift in front of a dSLR! Relief for Japan!

I had planned the 2nd Edition of Mompos Monday.  But the arrival of the much anticipated Pom Flower Shift calls for a temporary cancellation. You may recall my desperate ABP a few weeks ago, as I frantically scoured my resources in pursuit of the Take Action and the Pom Flower Dresses.  Well, a wonderful Reader named Beth (AKA thegreatblueheron) came through with a size 4.  Thank you Beth.  Beth is the same gal that also tipped me onto EZSniper.  Wow, do I ever owe you.  Just let me know if there is ever anything I can do.

Honestly, It never occurred to me that Anthro's Pom Flower Shift by Tabitha would turn out to be a bit of a Styling Challenge.  I tried on every Cardigan in my closet that seemed suitable.  Never has it been more clear to me that I need a Black light weight Cardi  Not just for the Pom Flower, but for the Tippi Dress too.

I settled on Anthro's Whirl and Wind Cardi by Sparrow.  Obviously I'm not completely happy with my choice.  I've been searching for my ever elusive Black Cardi for several weeks.

This is the first day using my Olympus Evolt E510 10MP Digital SLR with CCD Shift Image Stabilization and14-42mm Zuiko Lens.  I scored it used on Amazon after plenty of research.  It has only 2,000 photos logged on the camera and looks brand new. Even better, I have something in my right hand in the above photo that my Point and Shoot could not offer.  What is it?????????????

Did I do OK????????  I could not remember the setting for blurring out the background.  I've always wanted to do that.

Any awesome suggestions for a light weight Black Cardi for Spring/Summer.  Preferably short or at the waist.  Not necessarily cropped.  Cotton is my fabric of choice.  Although I have considered light weight Cashmere like J Crew's feather weight.  I'd like to keep the price to under $100 if possible, But I also don't want to miss out on something spectacular that may be over the $100 mark.

Anticipation of tomorrows Anthro sale is mounting.  My Shopping Bag is loaded to the brim.  Bad Laura jumped the gun this morning for Anthro's Corn Lane Slingbacks by Chie Mihara.  I've been waiting since early January. I nabbed the last existing pair of 38.5's online and in the States.  I'm hoping for a sale credit.

Since I have to work tomorrow, Keiko of Keiko's TanPoPo has agreed to wake me after Anthro pushes the button.  BTW, Keiko is making beautiful Paper Crane Earrings for $23.  All proceeds go to Earthquake/Tsunami Relief in Japan.

Please visit Keiko HERE.  While you are there, thank her for me, and snag a beautiful pair of earrings of your own to benefit Japan.

J. Crew is definitely my go to store for simple cardigans. It is also worth checking on the weekends when their factory pops up online as that will have a few different styles available as well.

Eep, tag sale tomorrow! Our store in Calgary is pretty picked over so I'm interested to see what they will have.

Hi Leana,

Online is picked over too. I want the Kirigami Cardi by LiaMolly. And a White Bette Cardi. That and a credit for the Chie Mihara's would make me a happy Anthro Addict.

In my dreams I'd love to see the Blue version of the Across the Lands Dress make sale.

I'd also like to see the Bette cardis go on sale. I really like the orange one. Maybe the Drawing Parallels skirt or the Gathering Together top? I could use some more pretty tops so hopefully some will make it to sale. I actually picked up the green Gathering Together top on Saturday in the hopes that it might go on sale.
I want the Gathering together in White. There are a few skirts I might like too.

Great job with the new camera, Laura! Oh, those Chies are gorgeous and I hope they go on sale for you to get a PA. As for a black sweater, have you considered the J Crew Jackie Cardigan? I think they are very versatile and would work well with your wardrobe.

I've got the Jackie Cardi in my J Crew bag. Still weighing my options.

I second Loraine's recommendation. LOVE the J. Crew Jackie cardigan. I have this cardigan in so many different colors - it is definitely my go-to cardi.
I love your choice for the cardi and the dress together. I really wanted to try on that dress - I am afraid it would be a little tight on my bottom half - YIKES! :) And your shoes are awesome. As usual, you look adorbs! I agree with Leana about a J. Crew sweater. I have also been seeing cropped ones all over the place. (ideeli had some yesterday - just keep looking). Cheers!

Sherry,

I like the Gold Whirl and Wind too. But I think my new Chie Mihara's would pop with this Dress and a Black Sweater.

The Pom Flower is just right below, but it's about to squeeze the life right out of me up top.

I think the gold cardian looks nice with the Pom Flower Shift. If anyone is looking for a size 6 in this lovely dress Laura is wearing, I saw a lone one in the sale room at the Santa Monica, CA store yesterday! A couple size 4 Tippi dresses, too. I think the Jackie cardigan is really cute, although with all those pretty colors it almost seems like a shame to order it in the black. Good luck with your cart tomorrow!

You went to the Santa Monica Store without me?

I heard that store is awesome. Two stories.

Thanks for the dress tips.

It was a whirlwind pass through on the way to the airport to pick up my son. It is a nice store and two stories! Wish I would have had more time to shop!!!
I have been wanting to visit the store. I'm kinda lazy when it comes to driving. And I prefer online. But it has it's disadvantages. I would not want to be at a store for the next week or two.

Ohh you got the Corn Lane Slingbacks!! I want to see them on you asap!! I am not able to afford any more Chie Mihara for probably another year. lol But I can afford Miss Albright <3
I saw a size 40 pair at my local Anthro for $130 though.. It was white sandals with three bows.

Thank you for donating for Japan and sharing the info on your blog :)
I have been thinking what to get tomorrow and I've removed couple stuff from my shopping bag. I can't spend $1000 right now!!! lol

I hope you are not overwhelmed by orders for earrings. Will you be able to handle it?

Good for you for taking control of your Shopping Bag.

I love the Pom Flower shift! I've been keeping my eye out for it also. I'm so bummed that I haven't been able to find it yet. I'll live vicariously through you until it comes along. I'll keep an eye out for an interesting black cardi for you. It'll be a bit hard since it's spring and everything is light and bright. I'll do my best!
Hi Laura,

The Pom Flower Shift (yes, the shi*F*t! I'm being careful this time!) looks great on you. So fun to see you wearing it! It looks much better on you than it did on me. I'm glad it all worked out.

Have you thought about a cardigan in kelly green?

Yes! You read my mind. The Blooming Lattice in Green will be part of my 2nd styling for the Pom Flower.

So glad you found the dress! I like how you styled it. I am also on the lookout for a plain black cardigan. I wish I had picked up the Prairie Rose Cardigan in black as well as gray.
oh, I hope the yellow chies get a cut for you then! they are a spectacular pair of shoes, that's for sure...

Love the pom with the detail on this cardigan- I echo others on the jackie cardigans- they're just great essential wardrobe pieces!
Pom flower shift looks so good on you! I love it with the cardigan too. I think black would be nice but the pop of color you added is very springy!

Congratulations on the new camera! I am in the market (as you know) but might wait until next month to make the leap due to car repair woes.

Your photos looks a lot clearer- what a difference a new camera makes! that cardi and the pom shift dress were clearly meant to be worn together. I love that detail on your cardi. I think the outfit works well Laura..don't be unhappy about it :) is that a remote you have in your right hand?
1 reply · active 724 weeks ago
I would like the outfit better with Black. I think! That's the problem. I'm not sure what would look the best as a Cardigan. The dress looks best on it's own.

Yes Jen! It's a remote.

Congrats on the new camera! Hope you have a ton of fun with it - photography has always interested me, but I was never smart enough to get the technical aspects of it down.

You look fantastic in the pom shift - what a fun piece that will go with a ton of other items!

I know I should take a photography class so I can take full advantage of the camera. But instead I'm going to try and teach myself.

I'm sure there are tons of online info available - plus a host of other bloggers with DSLRs who can help. I can't wait to see more of your fantastic "fancy" photography! ;o)
Yay for the new dSLR!! Hope you love it, Laura! This is a good book if you're interested; it's one way to get started, and you can study in your down time!

Love this styling on the Pom Flower! I spy the Whirl Wind! :P So perfect together! I'm really liking those Jambu's - do you find them to be comfortable?

Yes Mandy. The Camden (haha also my sons name) Wedge is very comfortable. You can find them at Athleta and Zappos. I ran out of time yesterday. Didn't get links added.

ABP?

Columbia?
1 reply · active less than 1 minute ago
You mean Colombia with two o's right. The Mompos is a Dress named after the same.
Awesome pics Laura. You did great! And *GASP* the Corn Lane Slingbacks by Chie Mihara are just drool worthy. Come to think of it, it'd go PERFECT with the outfit you have on in this post. I'm heading over to Keiko's blog now. xx

Dearest Lisa,

I had the most difficult time styling in shoes for the Pom Flower. You are exactly right about the Chie Mihara's with this dress. Not to mention half of my closet. The only other Deep Yellow (Mustard) shoes I have are the Lass and Laddie Oxfords. Not the best choice in this instance.

Hello! Problem! The Corn Lane Slingbacks didn't go on sale as I calculated. I'm not giving up hope for a sale credit within the two week window.

Thanks for visiting Keiko and supporting relief for Japan Lisa.

And thanks again for the Stylish Blogger Award. I still need to visit and pick that up.

I really like the yelow cardi paired with the Pom Flower shift...so bright and cheery!!!!

Oh, and I'm totally jealous about your new camera!!! I really need to invest in a new camera myself, but just can't bring myself to buy one. I'm afraid I won't know how to use it properly.
1 reply · active less than 1 minute ago
Exactly. I don't know how to use this one. Time to learn.

The Pom Flower is such a great dress! And on you it looks wonderful. The print is bright and quirky, but the cut is classic enough to make this dress both unique and elegant.... my favourite combination! I do like the cardigan you chose to pair it with! Good luck on your hunt for another one, though.... it's so strange to me how I can never seem to find the perfect cardigans in solid colours. I've been looking for a pretty figure flattering pale yellow one forever now and I've only managed to find frumpy looking ones. I wish I had a J Crew near me so I could check out their cardis! I'm scared to pay for shipping when I've never even tried a J Crew piece on before!

I have one J Crew Cardi. The Tuffled Celosio in Coral. I adore it. Now I wish I had grabbed the Black before they were gone. I think they run a little large Carly. I ordered a Small and wish I had went with XS. Now the Jackie is OOS in Black.

I saw some pretty light-weight cardis at the banana republic outlet, 3/4 length sleeves. Target also should carry a short sleeve cardi version. Every summer they bust one out. I bought one last year and it has a subtle striping in it like unto the shadowsleeve cardi from Anthro. I'd keep my eyes peeled there. You're Pomming the Shift out of that dress, lady! You look awesome. If I could still get the dress over my hips (sad, but true) I'd be pairing it with a short-sleeve green cardi, worn open, with a skinny belt. The print on the shift is so lovely I can't bring myself to cover it up!
