No Anthro Zone Review: Head Over Heels for Apple Pie Mary Janes!

Apple Pie Mary Janes - By Poetic Licence - Endless Shoes Orig $98 Sale $68 - July 2011

Polka Dot Be They Name

On sale they are too tempting to ignore.

No Anthro Zone Review:  Apple Pie Mary Janes in Blue - by Poetic Licence - Endless Shoes Orig $98 Sale $68

I ordered my normal size US 8. Despite the fact that the heel is fairly low, I found my foot sliding forward against the slick insole.  It was then I checked the shoe, and discovered that the bottom is clearly marked EUR 39, While the inside reads US 8M.

The Endless Size Chart claims US 8 equals EUR 38
In my experience US 8 equals EUR 38.5 or UK 38.5.  So I was confused.
Endless sent me the correct size shoe according to the Manufacturer's Conversion on the shoe.

I checked my Poetic Licence Backlash (Anthro's Lass and Laddie Oxfords) and they are also marked US 8 on the inside and EUR 39 on the bottom. I put them side by side. The Apple Pie Mary Janes are 1/2 an inch longer. That explains it.

The Product Page for this shoe is listed in US sizes. I recommend sizing down one 1/2 size.  So if you wear US 8, order US 7.5.  The sizing may not be consistent with other Poetic Licence shoes in your closet.

Apple Pie Mary Janes - By Poetic Licence - Endless Shoes Orig $98 Sale $68 - July 2011
More Details....

I adore the curved shape under the arch for Poetic Licence pumps this year.  The heel is not too dainty, nor too chunky. The height is just right for a vintage inspired 40's pump.  Overall, the styling speaks clearly.

The vamp strap is elastic with a decorative Gold Apple Button. The glitter is glossed over, so it will not chip. The Endless Details Tab describes the Button as a closure.  However, it is non functioning.

I describe the Blue as Aqua or even Cyan.  The Pink Polka Dots are Bright.  Almost Neon.  The White Polkas are not Pure White.  The fabric has a slightly rough, nubby texture that is appropriate.

My foot is medium at the front and narrow through the arch and heel.  The shoe feels wide toward the back.
These may not work well for a Narrow Foot.  The vamp strap is not tight at all.  Which is how it should be, or these would hurt without tights. The strap does prevent my heel from slipping out of the shoe.  A very good thing.

The toe box has ample wiggle room. Neither the heel or sides caused a problem.  I did have pain in one toe from sliding forward and hitting the front of the shoe.

I don't expect these to last forever.  But, with proper care and attention (be careful where you walk) these should look good for a few years.

I added Foot Petal Inserts for additional cushion
and to prevent my foot from sliding forward and jamming my toes to the front.

I also applied Fabric Protector before wearing them outdoors.  I plan to re-apply often, after using a soft brush to remove dry dust and debris.

My shoes arrived late the night before. When I opened the box in the morning, there was no turning back.   So I threw this outfit together in 5 minutes. So versatility is clearly not an issue.

Hi Mandy,

Funny story about the T Shirt. It's a Small that fits like a Medium. The first time I wore it was with a a different Leifsdottir Denim Skirt than the one I am wearing in this Post. It turned the bottom of my shirt Blue. When I hand washed the Shirt, the flowers bled color all over the shirt. It took many washings to get the Shirt White again. Then I had to glue the flower petals down. This is only the second time in 2 years I have worn it.

Did you notice how long the Brand Name is?

From my Yahoo Mail - Laura
Ha, yes, I did notice how long the name is - that's hilarious and cheeky!! Love it!
These shoes look super-cute on you! They look a bit too big though, no? The shot of you against the wall makes it seem like there's quite a bit of space in the back?

YThey are 1/2 size too big. As I explained, my Backlash (Lass and Laddie Oxfords) are the same size and fit fine. The Apple Pie's are a 1/2 inch longer. I should have recognized that fact. But it's really OK. I hadn't put the Inserts in for the pictures. My foot is sliding too far forward so the space is even larger because of that. The inserts will do the job the next time I wear them.

PS: I really like this outfit!! You do casual looks really well!

Thanks JG! Pre-Anthro, casual was it for me. Now I prefer to dress up.

CUTE!! I saw these shoes on someone's blog a few months ago and remembered how cute they were. They look adorable. I love the polka dots and the apple button. I thought these shoes would be a bit tricky to style, but i guess i was wrong. They do *look* a little too big on your feet though (mind you, my Chies are 1/2 size bigger than my normal size...the strap makes it work.)

They are a 1/2 size too big. The instep is very slick with bare feet. I hadn't added the Foot Petal to keep my foot from sliding forward in these images. So that space looks larger than it truly is. The strap most definitely save the day.

Cute! What a great pair of fun shoes. Thanks for the great review.
Hey Laura,

I knew these shoes were made for you when I saw them a few weeks ago:)) they're really cute :)
I love the black version: thanks for the review. I wasn't sure about sizing.

Dee, Are you going to get the Black Apple Pie Mary Janes? I'm watching them on sale at a few different places. Hoping they will drop in price.

Sent from Laura's iPhone
yes, I'm probably going to buy them. I love the blue ones too :)
I'm watching at some UK or EU sites for it to go on sale (or get a 2nd cut) because ordering from the US to EU is pretty expensive (at least 2 times the price sometimes).
xx
I thought the sizing was confusing. Make sure you size down half a size from your normal.

Sent from Laura's iPhone
I ordered those and they're adorable! But they were too big for me too and the correct size down was not available. Plus, I can't make fabric shoes last very long--I usually get my leather shoes scuffed on first wear. AND I just didn't have enough things to wear them with. Oh well! They look great on you!

Maybe I should get the black ones....

Keep your outfit simple and let the shoes be the statement. You could try a striped top with them. The Black wouldn't show dirt as much, and be more versatile.

I thought they were all $54 last night when I posted. Thanks for spotting my error. I simply ran out of time checking elsewhere.

Lauren,

All this love for my Blue Polka Dot Shoes just makes me want another pair. Should I get Black or Pink?

Whoa, those shoes are darling! Almost scrumptious - like a cupcake! Get in my belly!
And it's genius how you tied the belt in with your shoes. The color of your belt and shoes look like an exact match.
And this outfit is so hip, it's shaves ten years off you. Not that you need any "shaving off." But it almost makes you seem girly, in a good way. =)

I suppose Girly helps keep me young. I've been intentionally concentrating on acquiring certain colors in accessories, Cardi's and shoes. So I'm glad my acquisitions are obvious.

Laura, I owe you a big thank you for this post. I, too, took advantage of the Endless offer and ordered another pair of Poetic License shoes (the London Calling T-Straps). I ordered my normal size 7, thinking I'd get the 37, which is what I always am in PL shoes. When I got the shoes, they were HUGE on me and I couldn't figure out why since they were stamped as 7s inside. Like yours, they are stamped inside with one size and on the bottom, there's the European size (38). I would not have thought to compare if it wasn't for your post. So anyway, I sent an email to Endless (which immediately got a stock reply, but at least I tried) asking them to please list the European sizes for European brand shoes, and returned the 7s. I then ordered a smaller size and I'm sure they'll fit.

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up! And those shoes really suit you :)

Your welcome Lauren. You are the exact reason for my sometimes lengthy and often convoluted reviews. If I help just one person, then it's well worth the time.

I was admiring the London Calling in grey last night. I didn't see the Special Offer until you pointed it out. Oh sweet temptation. I'm drowning.

Sooo many pairs of shoes. What is a shoeaholic to do. Jeez!

Those shoes are adorable. I also like the t-shirt you have on- I must have missed that online since I've never seen it before!

Great shoes! I've seen these in a couple different colorways and been very tempted to buy!!!

I have a pair of Poetic Licence flats that I absolutely love. They've lasted me a good 3 years, but I've worn holes in them where the heel meets the sole. I think they are beyond repair but it pains me to retire them :(
It's polka dot heaven on a shoe! I love the colors, the shape, the style and how versatile they are. This outfit is a beautiful compliment to the shoes. I have no doubt you'll be able to make many more looks with them. Thanks for the review!
