Anthro's Soft Pour Sweater Dress! Nefi's Debut!

Anthropologie's Soft Pour Sweater Dress circa 2007 $188 - by Sleeping on Snow - EA $65 - Oct 2011

This dress draws attention.  It was hooked first time I saw it on Heidi.  It continued to get my attention over the years. Heidi is the young lady that introduced me to Anthropologie over 3 years ago.

I found this dress on Effortless Anthropologie's Buy/Sell/Trade.  The seller wore it once. The original price was $188. I purchased this like-new dress for $65 with ship. Since the dress is a Medium and fits loose, I went with a structured belt instead of the matching sash. I layered a stretchy T-shirt and long shorts underneath as a barrier against the itchy wool.

Old World Cuff in Orange - Anthro $58 - Oct 2011

My 23 year old son wants me to meet his girlfriend. I actually squealed when I read his text. Girls have never been important to Camden.  There aren't too many girls that enjoy playing paintball in 110 degree heat from sun up until sun down. They aren't much for Dungeons and Dragons either. His point of view has always been that girls require too much time and effort. I have met only one friend that was a girl.  He passionately denied that she was his girlfriend.

Not this time. The term girlfriend was most definitely used.  I have it in writing.  He-he!
He did volunteer that she doesn't work with him.

I offered to buy lunch. I asked for a name. I was told I would have to wait until Friday. Oh, and I am not to be nosey.  Bah-ha-ha!  I'm the least nosey Mother alive.

The nerve of me to be seen wearing THE Stepford Wives Heels.  As far as I know, I am the only person in Bakersfield CA that has a pair of Bowed Lacerta Mary Janes, so not very Stepford Wives-ish are they?

After about a 1/2 dozen attempts to find a pair with no obvious defects, that also fit, I finally had success with an online order.  I have worn this pair of shoes at least once a week since I got them.  So they have turned out to be both versatile and comfortable.  They were worth the time and effort to find.

Old World Cuff in Orange - Anthro $58 - Oct 2011
This Cuff isn't what I expected.  For $58 I expected the Cuff in the online image.  The one I received isn't as feminine. There is no contrasting Purple layer underneath. I was about to complain because I don't have the option to chose, when I returned to the product page and realized that this item is an online exclusive.

I can't get the Gray and Purple bow out of my mind. If I had the time, I would make it myself.  But I doubt the bow would end up presentable.  And it's doubtful I could find Jacquard that looks anything like the online version I'm obsessing over.

I searched Fabric Bow Cuffs on Etsy.  You can see what I can get for $38 HERE, for $59 HERE, and for $118 HERE.

I was not impressed.  In fact, I'm now inclined to keep my Old World Cuff from Anthro. With the option to order a few just to see what I get.

What do you think I should do?

If he's anything like his Father, he will have to scramble to get his act together. If she's the one.

You wouldn't know it to look at him, but he runs deep.

I'm so busy, I can't think straight my friend. Thanks for visiting.

Oooh new girlfriend meeting, that is great! That is a shame about the cuff, it does look very different then the online one. I like the color, lines, and shape of that dress, not such a fan on the flower though. You still rock it though :)

He-he! Thanks for seeing the positive even if it's not all your cup of tea. Good thing I didn't go with wearing the Bouquet of Roses Heels with the dress. I crossed my mind ad a joke though.

Haha you know, you should next time :D
Ha-ha! No way! Too matchy-match. I wouldn't want to end up back on GOMI. I can see it now. The head Stepford Wife has gone to the Roses. He-he!

After I searched around on cuffs for alternatives, I realized that it's not such a bad cuff after all. Funny how that happens.

I love the stripes, and that fuzzy grey knit is beautiful- good stalking!

I didn't really stalk the dress. But I do read EA's Buy, Sell, Trade every week. So I suppose that is stalking for whatever happens to fall into my lap.

Keiko,

What did you think of the fabric Wrapped Etsy Cuffs? I was very disappointed in the choices. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

My son is very attracted to women of Asian decent. His last friend that was a girl (not girlfriend) was Filipino. My bet is this gal will be Asian.

He is an avid Anime fan. Attends all the conventions in LA. He collects anime T-shirts with female characters on them. Also art work, and weapons.

He plays D and D with a group of about 10 guys. He's not a Dungeon Master though. But he has filled in for their DM a few times.

No he doesn't play World of Warcraft. But he was very interested why I asked. He does play a lot of war strategy games. He went through Army Boot camp but ended up medically discharged with acute Bronchitis.

The Army was his calling. It's been a big disappointment to him. My family and his Fathers all come from a long line of military men.

He would love to find a gal that plays D and D. Do you still play?

I thought those cuffs are meh.. too. First off, I will try to make one that Anthro-like. The Anthro cuff doesn't look like it's hard to make, does it??

wow, so your son would like me if I were young!! ha ha! WoW is really addicting, it is great game but it is bad for you lol
I don;t play it anymore because I have Miley.. I played like crazy when I lived in LA,,5 years ago. I was actually a top person on a server once (over thousands of players) .......... seriously.... Because of that, I have some guy friends around your son's age. It's a funny story....

Now, I am really excited about Friday lunch!!
What a darling dress! You look fabulous, as usual.

Laura, what a great find on the dress. It looks great on you. I actually like the contrast in colors in the cuff.
How exciting-a GF. You must let us know how the "meeting" goes.

Liza,

I most definitely will update about the big meeting. It's not every day a son asks his Mother to meet his GF. Oh jeez! What should I wear?

That dress is gorgeous! I just noticed that cuff yesterday, and I really like it. The one you have is pretty too, but I agree the one on the website is really nice, and it sucks when you get something that doesn't look like the web pic! Anthro is so bad about that! The description says they used men's ties, so you might have better luck browsing tie racks for that grey color.

I think they were inspired by men's bow ties to re-create vintage bow ties for the cuff. But they certain do have a menswear appeal in the shape and the jacquard print. Which I do like. But the Gray Bow Tie is a cut above the bow tie I received. Mine is more like the Bow Tie shown for the Blue version.

I too noticed how well the cuff went with the belt. Most as if they were made to match. I'm going to keep the cuff. Maybe I will go for a second when they go on sale.

I'm so glad you were able to find a pair of those shoes that fit and were without defects. I confess I ordered them almost as soon as they appeared on the website. Luckily the pair I got were in great shape and I've found them to be very versatile. Super happy with them! You look gorgeous in that dress!!

Hi Leana, I ordered a pair online immediately too. They arrived defective. I am talking very badly defective. One heel off center and pushed in. So I had the Santa Monica Store save me a pair. They were not defective, but fit entirely too big compared to the first pair in the same size. So I sized down to 7.5 and tried two pairs at the store. Both were defective. I waited about 2 weeks to order the final pair from online. I'm sure happy I didn't give up entirely on them.

Hi Laura,
Oh yay! So glad you finally got a pair of those heels to your liking!!! I wear mine ALL the time (in fact I am wearing them right now). The dress looks delightful on you!!!! Have a great day!
P.S. Maybe your son's girlfriend will be an ANTHRO-fiend too! :-) How fun would that be?!

Oh no! She won't even know what Anthro is. You are forgetting where I live. In a No Anthro Zone. Ha-ha! I'm excited about meeting her. And wondering why my son is being so secretive about the whole thing.

Sent from my iPhone
Haha....well, maybe she is the same as you......in <3 with Anthro but geographically far away......hey if she is, you guys can buy stuff online together and combine shipping costs! :-)
Hahahaha! I'm not sure how to take all this crazy wild info my son is throwing at me. Things are coming out of his mouth I never expected to ever hear from my son. My son just gave me a stroke. He is in love. Oh for pity sake. He has always proclaimed himself the 40 year old virgin.

Hahahahaha! I wish he hadn't let loose this latest for awhile. I'm a wreck. Sure hope he doesn't decide all of a sudden to read my blog. He would be mad as heck. He wouldn't even remember the name of it.

Signed, not going to think about this too much. Bonnie (small town fashionista) would be proud of me.

Is that your voice in the video talking to Nefi? It's so different from what I imagined! I don't know why, but I love matching a real voice to the online personality.

I've never seen this dress before, but I think it's pretty fantastic. It's so interesting how the stripes make it look pleated. Have fun meeting your son's girlfriend! I hope she's a catch, and maybe someday you too will have an Anthro shopping trip together :)

Mich,

Yes that is me speaking in the video. I felt the same way when I met Roxy in NYC. I was surprised by how soft spoken she is.

The dress is hand painted after it was sewn together. Even the stripes. Now that you mention it. It does look pleated.

From my Yahoo Mail - Laura
That is a beautiful dress, Laura! Don't you just love the trade market? I have had a few very successful transactions there (that is actually where I found my wedding dress!). Love the shoes too.

Good luck meeting the gf. Hope it goes well.

Kristin, I didn't know you found your wedding dress on EA. Was it from BHLDN? I must have missed that post. Can't wait to see photos of you in it.
