Today was now or later for Anthro's Pick A Bunch Cardi.  Is there a rule against wearing a Fall outfit in early Spring? Katharine Hepburn said...
"If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun."
So True.  This is one fun Cardigan.  I couldn't wait for Fall to enjoy it.  Truth is I'm not looking forward to Spring and Summer Fashion. Or the Bakersfield Heat. I actually hurried Summer off last year in this POST.
BTW, I layered Anthro's Molded and Melded Tee under the Pick A Bunch.

My plan last Fall was to unite Anthro's Gold corduroy Neisden Skirt with the Pick A Bunch Cardi.  Even the best laid plans fall through. I went with an alternate by Athleta.

I belted over top the Pick A Bunch with Anthro's High Gloss Belt in Yellow, and draped myself with Anthro's Limoncello Necklace .  These were my attempt to distract you from my folly by throwing in Bright Spring Color.  But I know I could never fool you guys.  You can't miss the obvious.

Shop the High Gloss Belt HERE.

And for my final Rule Breaking Quote...

"It never hurts to have a good excuse to break the rules," by GeoInCalifornia.

Excuse #1 - I recently managed to snag this Cardi on eBay. I missed my chance in the early AM when it hit sale. I was sleeping. Why I didn't try a store search is beyond me.  I was busy dreaming and plotting my Spring wardrobe.   I waffled back and forth before biting the bullet on eBay.

Here are even more of those wonderful Fall colors to amuse and distract you. After all, it's Fall somewhere on Earth.
Orla Kiely's Aspen Leaf Tote
I actually took the belt off, untucked the Tee shirt, and liked this outfit more.

Say farewell to this outfit.  You won't be seeing this again until Fall.  Or possibly never...

Excuse #2 - It's possible I may not be around next Fall.  As I was getting ready for work this morning, a news flash declared the End of the World to be May 21st 2011.  The date has been changed from Dec 12, 2012.  Which is the end of the Mayan calendar.

'It's time to Break the Rules and Party.
Are you a rule breaker?  Have you broken a Seasonal Outfit Rule?  Not that you need one, but did you have an excuse? Ha-ha!

I Love You...and Chie Mihara's

Polka Peppered Dress - by Maeve - Anthro Orig $148 Sale $80 - May 2010
Tosmo in RED - by Chie Mihara - Far Fetch $329 - 041611

Today someone asked me if I liked you.  I laughed, and I said, "Ha! That's funny!!  I freakin' LOVE that chick!!  She's funny, caring, crazy as heck, sweet, beautiful, and she's reading this blog right now and; I love her!!"

I received this awesome "I Love You" from my friend today.  If your reading, Thank you Kelli.
Every year I allow myself one pair of Chie Miharas.  On sale of course.
The year was 2008. It was the first time I had ever seen a pair of Chie Mihara's at Anthro and on Heidi. I lusted for Antho's Savoy Slingbacks by Chie Mihara.  When Anthro finally put them on sale, they were still too expensive for me to afford.  Months later, I found mine at Nordstrom online for 70% off.  The last pair of size 38's for $103  They didn't even come in their original box.  I didn't care.
Anthro's Savoy Slingbacks or Patchwork Sandal - by Chie Mihara - Nordstrom Orig $345 Sale $103 - Dec 2008
In 2009 I lusted for Anthro's Needlework T-Straps by Chie Mihara.  When Anthro put them on sale at 50% off, I didn't bat so much as an eye lash over the price.

Needlework T-Straps by Chie Mihara - Anthro - Orig $398 sale $200 - Jun09
See me wear them HERE
The year was 2010. I didn't even see these until they hit sale in early January.  That's right, Anthro put this pair of sandals on sale in the dead of Winter. It happened so fast Heidi has been kicking herself ever since.  I think this color was an Anthro Exclusive.  I searched for Heidi, and was only able to find them in Taupe Suede. Which doesn't come close to Anthro's Pearl. BTW, instead of the leather wrapped heal that Anthro described, these arrived with a versatile stacked wood heel.
Blushing Mercury Heels in Pearl - by Chie Mihara - Anthro orig $380 sale $190 - Mar 2010

It was late 2010 when these showed up in an Anthro Catalog. I would make these mine the minute they hit sale.  I must have been asleep at the wheel or something.  But that's OK! All the reviews said they ran very narrow up front.  My foot is narrow everywhere, but the front.
Anthro's Ribbon Swell Heels-  by Chie Mihara - 2010

I'm over them...

It was instant love when I found the Tosmos at Chie Mihara's Online Store.  The only size available was UK 41.  I was heart broken for a minutes.  Wait!  Google to the rescue. The best price was $358 out the door from farfetch.com.  And DHL didn't even charge me a VAT fee or a surcharge for importing them.  They arrived last night from a little boutique in Sienna, Italy in 4 days.  They are perfect in every way.

My Red Suede Shoe Crave is now fulfilled.

Anthro's Gunilla Dress by McGinn! Polyester Love!

I am meeting a Reader for lunch today.  Karen was the runner up with her submission of Petrified Wood for the Inspiration That Rocks Series.  I'm excited to meet her, and give her a Snowflake Necklace.  Also, a little nervous.  Is that crazy?  I might be overdressed too.

Gunilla Dress - by McGinn - Anthro Orig $258 2nd Cut $70 - March 2011
Sulky Belt in Blue - Anthro Orig $48 Sale $30 - March 2011
Ribbed Waist Cotton Cardi in Ochre - by Gap - Orig $50 Sale $40 - March 2011
Preserved Gypsophila Necklace - by De Jarnette of New Orleans - March 2011
I've had Anthro's GUNILLA DRESS by McGinn for a few weeks.  I've been so busy with the Inspiration That Rocks Series and Reviews that I haven't posted an OOTD with this dress. I picked it up on Pop Back, at the 2nd cut price of $70. Who sells a dress for $258 that's 100% Polyester?  Anthro!  Despite the dreaded fabric, I'm in love with this dress.  Too bad I forgot to take a photo of the back.  The bodice has an over jacket that buttons up the back.  So cute!  The dress itself is super comfortable.  I think I can come up with several different ways to style this into Spring.

And I love the PRESERVED GYPSOPHILA NECKLACE by DeJarnette of New Orleans with the dress. Although it's tough to see the necklace in my photos.

I ordered this RIBBED WAIST COTTON CARDI in Ochre from the Gap online.  I purchased 4 slightly different Cotton Blend Cardi's from the Gap is various colors for $140 total.  I'm considering a few more.  I wish they had Orange.

Shop Gap's Cotton Cardi HERE

The waistline on the Gunilla Dress is an inch or two higher than I like.  To define my waist at a lower elevation (ha-ha) I belted the dress with Anthro's SULKY BELT in Blue.  I then pushed the Belt down, which also helps to flatten the very puffy pleats that start at the waist.  I suppose a photo minus the Cardi would have been helpful.  Sorry about that.

I adore Anthro's HONOR GUARD BOOTIES by Messica. I went with these to keep the look on the modern side for work.

I'm not hip on Orla Kiely's ALL LEATHER GREENLINE SATCHEL with this outfit. But for lack of time, I grabbed and ran with it. This is a Green, Disposable Bag.  What!  Just toss it in a landfill when your done using it.  What!  No metal parts to pollute.  Completely Biodegradable!  That's right!  No cotton lining, and no OK elastic key fob either. Who throws away a $600 handbag?  A Purse Snatcher?

It's been raining for several days straight.  Flooding is expected.  I had to unplug the drain in my backyard again.  Haven't used that drain in 4 years.  Now I've had to drain the yard twice in 4 months.  Our annual rainfall is nearing 190% of average.

Spring is off to a good start! Did anyone pick up some Tuesday Sale goodies from Anthro?

Ready, Set, Go, Repeat! Friday Stress Out!

How can it be Monday already?  I took a vacation day on Friday, thinking I could catch up.  I had planned to do my dreaded TAXES. On the way to a Dr's appointment, I got car sick.  I hadn't eaten enough before taking my vitamins.

I was already nervous and upset about the Dr's visit.  On top of getting sick, I suffered an anxiety attack. All while I sat next to my car in a parking lot.  How's that for the ultimate vacation day.

If only Calgon could really TAKE ME AWAY! He-he!

Now I have to reschedule that dreaded Dr's visit.  And TAXES remain on my To-Do list. Despite all the drama of Friday, I put together a fabulous INSPIRATION THAT ROCKS Outfit for Style #5 that is scheduled to Post Wednesday morning.

Anthro's PASEO LEATHER SKIRT by Leifsdottir was supposed to be an investment piece.  I'm now thinking I still need a basic Black skirt.  I thought I would get a lot of wear out of this skirt.  This is only the second time I've worn it.

Fanned Flames Blouse - by Leifsdottir - Anthro orig $178 sale $90 - Jan 2009
The Skirt certainly compliments Anthro's FANNED FLAMES BLOUSE by Leifsdottir in the most splendid way. The blouse is just too spectacular to wear with plain old Black trousers. Blah!

I CUSTOM ORDERED THIS BRACELET from Esty Shop Adri33.  If you click the link, you can see a better image of the Sterling Silver Turtle.  The bracelet has an appealing Gaelic Theme that makes it the perfect accent piece for the Blouse.

It was Jamie of Thrifty Threads I blame for these pumps. I saw her wearing the SASHA PUMPS by B Makowsky in Ivory.  I had been searching for a Black Mary Jane style pump for Month's.  I'm a sucker for the stud detail.

Shop B Makowsky's Sasha Pumps on sale HERE, HERE and HERE.

It's difficult to see the Lavender color in the shoulder ruffle of the Fanned Flames Blouse.  The DOTTY CLUSTER TIGHTS by Eloise are also Lavender, and the perfect excuse to add a level of color to an otherwise Black and Gray outfit. And the infusion of color is even further intensified by Orla Kiely's SHINY LEATHER CARAWAY BAG in Mauve.

Ivory Cotton Blend Cape - by Calvin Klein Jeans - Macy's 2007
This Cotton Blend Calvin Klein Cape is a rare Non-Anthro item in my closet.  The back detail is gorgeous.  Even more so when a bright color is worn beneath.

Last week I produced only one post.  That was INSPIRATION THAT ROCKS #4.  My goal this week was to squeeze in an OOTD between Inspirational posts.  I did it.

See me wearing this outfit pre-Paseo Leather Skirt HERE.

How do you handle situations like my stressfull Friday?  Have you ever had anxiety attacks?  And more important, I want to know if others get sick from taking daily vitamins.  That is just crazy.

Inspiration That Rocks! Style #3! Bismuth!

If you missed "Inspiration That Rocks" Style #2 Opal, you can view the post HERE.

This mineral took my breath way.  I was entranced for 20 minutes staring at the crystalline structure. I see towers in decay, marching columns, collapsing terraces, twisted picture frames, toppling roofs, and winding staircases.  The sample as a whole strongly resembles a city in ruin. The rich colors are translucent, iridescent and metallic. Since it's a photograph, I had difficulty identifying the Mineral.

BISMUTH
Every mineral has a unique set of properties that determine it's identity.

1. Color
2. Streak
3. Luster
4. Cleavage
5. Hardness (MOHS Scale)
6. Crystal Structure and Shape
7. Specific Gravity

All very difficult to test without the actual sample. I can't turn the crystals to count the number of faces.  Although the crystals are elongated, and are perhaps twins, again I can't be sure.  I can't guess the molecular weight without at least holding it in my hand. I can't break a piece off or scratch it with various objects to determine the hardness as described by the MOHS Hardness Scale.

Heidi and Andrew (both Geologists) were able to determine that this Mineral is BISMUTH.  However, the crystals in this sample are not naturally occuring in nature.  This particular sample of Bismuth is lab grown.

This outfit would not be possible without the inspiration created by the image of the mineral. The combination would never have occurred to me.  It's also very difficult to relate the inspiration back to my Readers. I pulled this outfit together in an amazing 15 minutes.

Unlike the Opal of last week, this mineral forms cubic picture frame like shapes.  The varying shades of Green, Blue and Purple with a White translucent quality are nicely mimicked in the print of Anthro's Building Blocks Top by Deletta.

Anthro's Building Blocks Top Print
Unknown Mineral

Another characteristic that inspired me was the Iridescent Blues in the Mineral. Denim would be a perfect answer.  Even better is Leifsdottir's Dark Denim Ruched Panel Skirt. In addition, the ruched panel on the skirt front directly translates to the stacked, elongated crystals that form rows of columns or stairs depending on which direction the crystals are oriented.

The same column like behavior is seen again in the vertical piping on Anthro's From The Poles Jacket by Sparrow. See me wear this Jacket differently HERE. Honestly, I would have never in a Million Eons thought up this combination.  I was amazed that I could transfer these characteristics directly over to styling an outfit.  And it took no more than 30 minutes of effort.

Nothing like this gorgeous Purple pair of  Seville Heels by Coclico with staircase like ruching right down the front. I had just received the Opaque Tights in Green by Hue the same day, and planned to use them for something entirely different that fell through.  Perfect timing. Olive Green, Navy and Purple are such a marvelous color combination.

You can see a slightly better view of Anthro's Meteorology Necklace made from Smokey QTZ, Purple Amethyst and Lime Green Prynite.

Dear Readers,
Can you spot some of the visual characteristics of the Mineral Bismuth that I attempted to capture in my photos.

Hints:  For example, the Green Light Pole next to the Yellow Bicycle resembles the columns formed by the elongated crystals.

Please send me more Rock and Mineral Photos.   See the Guidelines for Submission, outfit post dates and Giveaway at the bottom of the Post HERE.

No Anthro Zone Review - The Contemporarian Dress! D'armee Later Today!

No Anthro Zone Review:  The Contemporarian Dress.  Be sure to check back later for my review of the D'armee Dress.

Contemporarian Dress - by Maple - Anthro $128 - Feb 2011
The awesome reviews sucked me in. The adorable scribble print is reminiscent of Orla Kiely’s patterns. The dress is adorable from the front.  It’s the back presentation that is cause for concern. Who ever determined this dress as GREY is out of their mind.

SIZING:  I went with my normal size 4.  I’m 5’6’ Tall, 130-135 lbs, narrow shoulders, low waisted, larger than normal rib cage, 34C.

FIT:  TTS or size up if between sizes. The hemline hit about an inch above my knees. I somehow thought that the waistline would be lower on this dress.  It’s just higher.  The top hit under my bust.  But I was surprised at how well it worked even on me.  I would have liked the waistline to be at least 1 to 2 inches lower to look best.  The dress itself was slightly tight through the ribs. But I had a camisole underneath. Just as I would expect from a waistband with no give. Due to the design of the waistband, belting this dress could be tricky.

The major flaw for me was the arm holes are cut too deep.  Any kind of support would be visible under the awesome detailing.

DETAILING: I added a Brown Camisole under the dress to cover my bra straps. Too much of the camisole shows under the arms.  I’m not sure a strapless would even work. And the string straps in the back seemed too long and kind of hung loose and floppy. I would have to cover the best part of this dress with a Cardi?

I needed help with the Zipper that runs up the back. No pockets!

FABRIC: This is 100% RAYON including the Brown Lining. Dry Clean Only. Has a very Cotton feel to it. The fabric is thin. I can’t imagine the nightmare of getting the wrinkles out of this one.

I think it’s a great dress for 5’7” and under. Would work best for those that are normal to high waisted, and not overly endowed.  Also would work for those that can go braless.  You can see right through the double layer of fabric on the bodice.

I didn't feel the magic or the love.

RETURNED!

Please feel free to ask questions about this dress in the comments section.  Or you can email me at lauramartinsemail@yahoo.com

The D'armee is a different story.

Happy Valentines Day! Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a great weekend with someone they love.

Dear Blog Friends,  Have you ever pushed the PUBLISH BUTTON before you intended? That's what I did yesterday with Inspiration That Rocks #2, which was not scheduled to Post until Wednesday.  A couple of Readers were fast on the comments.  I removed the Post.  Let's pretend you didn't see it. It's still scheduled to fly early Wednesday morning.  So if you submitted a Rock Photo, don't miss Wednesday's Post.

Anthro let go of the Perthshire on sale end of November. Three months after it's release in the September Catalog. However, they held onto Mrs. Blackbeards Necklace by Wendy Mink  in hopes of selling them at full price. When the necklace finally dropped from $198 to $100 in mid January, I was tempted.  Instead I kept a close watch to see how it would sell.  When all versions were still available after a few weeks, I was hoping for a 2nd cut.  That's exactly what happened.  I picked this lovely necklace up for 75% off. It will work nicely with the Attention to Details Dress in Taupe also.

Mrs Blackbeard's Necklace - by Wendy Mink - Anthro Orig $198 Sale $50 - Feb 2011
I've had the lovely Regine Cardigan by Leifsdottir for sometime.  I think I've worn it twice. I thought it was the perfect Ruffled, Red piece to add Romance to this special day.  It's about as soft and comfy as any sweater in my closet. The drape gives a very flattering silhouette.

Reversible Leather Shoulder Bag in Cream Olive - Orla Kiely Orig $564 Sale $395 AW09 - Jan 2010
I went with Heathered instead of solid Grey Tights. See the Opaque Tights in Charcoal Heather. I was looking for just a touch of textured interest above the Pebbled and Primped Boot by Miss Albright , and below the Dark Dress. I love the front pockets detail on Orla Kiely's Reversible Leather Shoulder Bag.

Anthro Gets the Modcloth SQUEEZE! Fresh Anthro Closet Chaos Picks!

I spend just as much time browsing Modcloth's site as I do Anthropologie.  I know, that sounds so strange coming from an Anthro Addict like me.

Look On The Sunny Side Dress - by Shulami - Modcloth Orig $88 Sale $62 - Jan 2011
Mullion Tights in Brown - by Eloise - Anthro Orig $18 Sale $10 - Jan 2010
Rensselaer T Straps - by Miss Albright - Anthro $148 - Aug 2010
Fortified Flora Necklace - Anthro Orig $42 Sale $20 - Mar 2010
Meet Modcloth's Look On The Sunny Side Dress minus the juvenial Black bow tie.  A quick session with a seam ripper and wallah, I've got a very wearable dress.  Even better on sale. It's a Silk Viscose Blend, that is obviously going to wrinkle badly.  I'm a size Medium with Modcloth, and a Small with Anthro.  This dress is a bit large on top, while a little narrow through the hips. Thankfully, that's exactly how I'm proportioned.  Fortunately for me, most of the female population is Hour Glass.  So I luck out on sale.

Modcloth's sale is ending soon.  Shipping is free over $100.  But even when it isn't free, the flat rate is $7.  I placed a large Anthro order yesterday to the tune of $20 for shipping.  So Modcloth looks very attractive when money is tight.

Major Style Jacket - by Theme - Modcloth Orig $95 Sale $47 - Jan 2011

The Major Style Jacket by Theme fits a little wonky.  The sleeves are too long, so I folded them under.  And due to the angled buttons, it just looks off at the waistline. The fabric is 50% Wool and 50% Chemical.  What the...  It's made in China and the washing instructions specify "NO BLOEACH."  Ha-ha! The Medium is a little on the large side. But I like my Blazers slightly over sized.

Wool Tapestry Stem Leather Handbag Multi - by Orla Kiely AW08 - Orig $800 eBay $400 gently used - Apr 2009
Look Out!  Anthro Incoming!  I love Eloise's Mullion Tights in Brown with Pink plaid to add a touch of color alongside theYellow and Brown.  I struggled between several pairs of shoes and booties.  In steps the Rensselaer T Straps to add some sophistication. Along with my favorite Orla Kiely Handbag.

Fortified Flora Necklace - Anthro Orig $42 Sale $20 - Mar 2010
The Fortified Flora Necklace was the perfect item to tie all the colors together.   The necklace begged to differ!  A few minutes after arriving at work, it insisted on falling apart.  I had secured it with super glue last year.  Looks like I will have to make a trip to Target between two back to back all day meetings.  This is exactly why I stay as far away from cheap jewelry as possible. But it is very cute with this outfit.

I was really bad yesterday.  How bad was I?  I literally fell off the wagon, right on my behind. See the first 6 entries in my New Items Folder HERE

AHHHH!
