If UV rays cause skin cancer and age the skin, why does the early morning Sun remove 10 years?

It's a conspiracy I tell you.  If it's bad for you, it will always make you look good.  

I would pay major bucks for a jar of Sunshine.

I'm talking about several Anthro Dresses worth of Sunshine in a Jar.

I didn't notice #1 until this afternoon when I was in front of a mirror.

Look under my arm just above my Yellow High Gloss Belt.  What the heck is that?

OMG!  Give that a little Valley Girl twist when you say it.  

My dress is ripped at the seam.  When I saw it, I knew exactly how it happened.

I have not worn the Overcast Dress by Maeve in almost a year.

It's stretchy, but apparently not enough to PULL OVER MY HIPS.

Big dummy...I forgot it has a side zip.  How funny is that?  Not very, if I didn't know how to sew.

Occasionally I spot this dress on eBay.  It's a great dress or would not still be in my closet and worn on this blog.  It's over 3 years old and going strong, once I mend the seam.  Machine Wash Tumble Dry.  Requires ironing, but once it's done only needs a touch up.  And the fabric has nice give.  Just not enough for my hips.  Ha-ha!

#2 and #3 are harder to spot.  It's something I forgot to do.
If you didn't know this dress, it wouldn't be obvious.
The last time I wore this dress (photo above) I didn't forget to do it.

I was going for a Layered Parfait look in today's outfit.  The Overcast Dress is Cherry Gelatin topped with Lime Topping played by Anthro's Reversible Tank in Turquoise (pretend it's Green - and it covers my cleavage nicely).  The High Glossed Belt represents Lemon in the middle, and the Whipped Topping on the bottom is my Scalloped Hem Half Slip from Etsy Shop - A Slip Shop.  One of the best solutions for a short dress or skirt I have ever found.

I couldn't leave the most comfortable pair of shoes (besides my new Nightshades Heels by Chie Mihara) behind this morning.  The Marine Depth Wedges received a good old fashioned Blog breaking in at the park. Wet grass, puddles, dirt, mud, everything the Killer Kern is best known for. Yep!  My son and I rafted it last year with a floater in the water.  Besides abundant drownings almost daily.  No worries!  I gave them a liberal helping of suede protector first thing today at 4 am. Brushed them clean once I was inside the office.

I couldn't believe what a perfect match Little Miss Orla Kiely was to The Marine Depth Wedges. These shoes were another Pop Back on sale in my Wish List.  My size sold out long before making sale.  Between these and the Nightshades, I fear my Pop Back luck will soon dry up.  That's when I will need your assistance.

The idea for the above photo is compliments of Midory of Shopping for Two.  I saw her photo on Kim's Anthroholic Readers Submissions last night.  I am so happy to see my favorite inspirational post back in action.  As you may have noticed,  GeoInCalifornia #2 is a bit weak on brightness.  If I went darker the sky was even more obviously out of whack.

I think Kim hung onto my submission for 2 months.  It's a fabulous photo by Kris of Kristine Ko Creative Studios, taken during our Collaborative Photo Shoot Part I and Part II a few months ago.  It goes hand in hand with my header photo and the Mompos Dress.  

This weekend I will see Kris once again when we meet at the fabulous 3rd Street Promenade Anthropologie in Santa Monica CA.  Along with Heidi, Liza and Joni, we are planning on having some good old fashioned shopping time together.  

Imagine this...I have not been in a Brick and Mortar in almost 1.5 years.  Are you wondering how it is I manage to rank as a Top 10 Reviewer?  So am I.  Look for actual in store Dressing Room Reviews over the Labor Day Weekend.  "What no fireplace in the background?" Liza said.

Who doesn't love Cobalt Blue Silk and a Ruched Sweet Heart Neckline?  The urge to splurge was made even stronger when combined with Anthro's Free Shipping and Return Promo through September.  I'm not feeling as left out while stuck in My No Anthro Zone.

Anthropologie's Tupelo Dress  - by Maple - $168 - August 2011

If you guessed that my hair is a mess and I'm not wearing make-up, you are absolutely correct.

SIZE: I'm normally a 6 on top and a 4 on the bottom. Most size 6 dresses will fit great through the chest, but run large through the waist and hips. I'm a 34C to D, 5'5" Tall, 130 lbs, 35-28-36, narrow from shoulder to shoulder. I ordered a size 4 from online.  It was Bonnie's review (Small Town Fashionista) of the Tupelo Dress that helped make the correct sizing decision.

FIT: The elastic back panel makes it possible to size down to a 4 to fit my smaller lower half, and still have the space and comfort of a 6 on top. The hemline hits at the knee. The waist is slightly high. Nothing a belt can't solve in Gold, Bright Orange, Red, Brown, or Navy to Blend. I usually wear a Full Coverage Bra, plus my shoulders are narrow so bra straps show at the neckline and in back. For work I will wear a Cardi, or try one of Anthro's Seamless Reversible Tanks under the dress.

Many online Reviewers had the same bra strap issues.  Many did not.  I assume it depends on the style of bra you wear, or if you are narrow across the shoulders as I am.  I plan to purchase a Demi Bra and give that a try.  I don't own one since I find that the girls tend to fall out the front.

FABRIC: 100% Silk Shell. Dry Clean. I didn't find the Silk to look or feel cheap.  The Bold, Colorful Print is flawless. The dress is fully lined in Poly, which helps keep the price of the dress down. I'm a firm believer in wearing thin shorts under my dresses in the Summer.  The shorts land a few inches above my knee, keep my legs from the sticking together, keep me dry and comfortable, while protecting my dresses from perspiration stains.  Which in turn keeps the dry cleaning bill almost nil.

Pockets are a plus. The dress was covered with wrinkles that didn't easily press out. My short arms didn't have a problem with the side zip. I easily slipped the dress over my head with the back hooked.

Style year round. Dress up or down. Evening out or to Work with a Cardi. Flat Sandals for Spring/Summer. Tights with Brown Boots in Fall/ Winter.

No Anthro Zone Review - The Nightshade Heels by Chie Mihara in Navy $438 - Gulp!!!!!!!!!!

The Nightshades Heels are Out Of Stock at Anthro.  Ped Shoes has the Navy version along with Red, for the same price HERE.

I've already protected the Suede on my newest insane infatuation. When the Nightshades appeared, they were immediately Wish Listed. When I later turned attention to my Fall shoe needs, I discovered my dream shoe in Navy was Sold Out.

Along came Miss Albrights Lake and Land Heels.  An alternatice to the Nightshades that would satisfy a need for Navy. The Lake and Land Heels arrived and were perfect. Then the unthinkable dilemma occurred. Later that night, the Nightshades popped back into my Wish List.

The answer was obvious...I was about to blow my entire Budget on the Nightshades, and return the Lake and Land Heels to offset the cost.  A mighty good deal all around.

SIZE: Most of my open toed Chie's are 38.  Anthro suggested sizing up one 1/2 size. Cheers to Anthro for getting that right. As luck would have it, the Pop Back was a 38.5.  It was a sign that I was meant to have them.  I could have ordered them from Ped Shoes.  But I did recently commit to shop Anthro exclusively, whenever possible?

The Gleaming Pillars Bracelet in Purple - by Kenneth Jay lane - Anthro Orig $199 Sale $20 - Aug 201 

I love my Bejeweled Bee Ring by Kenneth Lane.  Imagine my surprise to discover the Gleaming Pillars Bracelet is by one in the same.  The original price was an unthinkable $198.  I realized the other day that the Bracelet came out in the August 2010 Catalog.  This has been waiting in my Wish List for over a year.  I picked it up for the bargain 3rd cut price of $20.  Granted it's resin, and the gold paint scratches, and it's held together with stretch cord.  It's also super comfortable and totally eye catching.  Wish I had all three colors.

Finished on the bottom with Non-Skid soles. Enough heel height to give a boost, while allowing maximum comfort from a hidden platform.

SUEDE: Soft, rich, and of the highest quality imaginable. The color is Black in Bright Sunlight. In low light Navy, or even Dark Teal.

DETAIL: Petals of Leather reminiscent of Calla Lilies. At the center a snippet of round leather cord, textured in Shimmering Blue.

But wait...an unexpected surprise adorns the foot bed! What's this? A redesigned insole?  The Leather has been imprinted with....hold it.... Vintage Tea Pots and Coffee Cups.

For the moment, my shoe collection was complete. Then Anthro struck again with the Bowed Lacerta Mary Janes by Miss Albright. I'll have no Fall Dress money left at this rate.

In my opinion, this item fairly reflects the higher price tag.  As a responsible, gainfully employed, single woman, with no back taxes or credit card debt, I am therefore able and willing to pay such a price!

This last message was brought to you because a few individuals that have designated themselves the shopping police.  You know who you are.

The Quazar Necklace - by Gilda Grey - Anthro orig $398 Sale $100

The Quazar Necklace by Gilda Grey didn't make it to my Wish List until I discovered that it wasn't selling at the $200 price tag on 1st cut.  When it made 2nd cut to $100 I made off with it.  Now Sold Out. You can stalk the Page for Pop Backs HERE.


This necklace is Enchanting.  The work of Sorcery and Wizards. The design is intricate, pretty, and eye catching without making an "in your face" statement.  Reminiscent of drawings made on a Spirograph. If you are old enough to remember the plates and wheels drawing kit.  The Necklace is light weight, comfortable, perfectly proportioned, and fuss free.

The color combination is versatile and will easily style year round.

The style is similar to Steam Punk Jewelry (examples HERE) only delicate.  Usually made from bits and pieces of discarded machinery and metal.  Not something that has ever appealed to me until now.

How about those crazy 2nd and 3rd cuts?  Do you like them?  Or do you normally tend to stay clear of those reductions, believing the item must not be worth attention?  Sometimes that is completely true.

What's the scoop on the Taiyo Stalks Dress by Anna Sui?  Do you like it?  Not like it?  Did you notice the initial Reviews were both 1 star? When I added my review this morning there was a new 5 star.  

When this dress popped up on Anthro's site months ago, naturally I was intrigued.

Why was I intrigued by the dress?  If you happen to remember the Tippi Dress, also by Anna Sui, look carefully at the Taiyo Stalks Dress.  It's essentially the same dress, in Cotton, without a tiered skirt, with additional detail around the neckline and hem. So what went wrong with the Taiyo Stalks Dress?

Tippi Dress - by Anna Sui - Anthro Orig $268 Sale $140 - May 2011

According to the first 2 reviews, there were at least two issues.  The fabric was too stiff and the fit was similar to a Potato Sack. The Silk Tippi Dress draped very nicely.   In my opinion, a dress must be unwearable or actually falling apart to net 1 star.  So far quality was not an issue. Personally, the cotton is absolutely wonderful, but it's true that it doesn't drape like Silk, Jersey or Rayon.  Anna Sui only uses natural fabrics. Silk may have been a better choice.  Normally if a dress fits like a Potato Sack, that is a clue to size down.  That was suggested by both reviewers, however they don't suggest that sizing down made any difference in fit.  Part of the problem could be, if you are smaller than a size 6 you are sized out. I'm wearing a size 2.  The smallest size available.  I normally wear a size 6 in Anna Sui.

Anthropologie Taiyo Stalks Dress by Anna Sui  - Orig $298 2nd Cut Sale $80 - Aug 2011

SIZE: All my Anna Sui's are size 6.  Except the Tippi Dress (size 4).  I went with the suggestion to size down two sizes. I am 5'5" Tall, 130 lbs, 35-28-36, 34C, Narrow across the shoulders.  I'm wearing a size 2.

FIT:  The dress is slightly tight through the chest. However, there is no pulling across the front. Fitted looks best for a pleated bodice if you are busted. A loose fit would not be flattering. The length is right at the knee. The separate under slip is 6 inches above the dress hemline. Snaps at the shoulders are provided for slip straps. The tie at the waistline hits me an inch above my natural waist.

NECKLINE: There are two cinch ties.  Try adjusting the fabric by sliding it along the tie and distributing it evenly. If you pull the fabric along the lower neckline out to the sides and square off the neckline, it will remove the excess fabric that tends to bunch in front. Note that the neckline in the above photo is squared off. In the Product Shot it's rounded and the pleats cause the neckline to bunch if you are busty.  Bra straps are hidden much better with the Taiyo Stalks dress than the Tippi Dress.  Bra straps are hidden under the triangular detail that runs across the shoulder straps.

FABRIC: Beautiful Ivory Cotton Sateen that is very Sheer and Dry Clean only. BTW, this fabric is not Eyelet. Eyelet has holes cut through the fabric surrounding the embroidery. Taiyo is the Japanese word for Sun. There are dozens of Stalks that start at the hemline and travel up the skirt. Why not give this dress a fun name along the lines of the Tippi Dress?  Something like the Jack and Bean Stalk Dress. 


Bows decorate the stalks. Wreaths travel around flowers. Once ironed you will see a transformation take place.  The dress begins to look less like a night gown and more like an enchanted frock.  Something befitting Tinker Bell perhaps.  I was surprised how little the fabric wrinkled after a long day.

The separate slip comes with adjustable straps and is devoid of embroidery.  You could easily use this slip under other dresses.  However, it is Dry Clean only.  Anna Sui uses delicate fabrics that wouldn't hold up well as pockets.

STYLING:  I went with the romantic feel of the dress.  Using soft, light, and bright colors. The temptation may be to add more lace. Try a medium width belt to define and pull the waist down.  I tucked the waist tie between buttons to the inside of the bodice to hide it. Would style well with Tights and Brown Boots for Fall/Winter.  Stay away from statement jewelry around the heavily detailed neckline. Go for a single ring or bracelet.

I can't place this dress among my top 10 favorites.  Perhaps given a bit more time.  Anthro suggests a myriad of accessorizing possibilities.  I wish they would have given us just one.

Recommended - Size down 2 sizes.  Very small gals are sized out.

Anthro Closet Chaos Celebrates the Caranday Cause!

In Thursday's Post, I mentioned that I had a special happy ending to report on Friday.  That hasn't changed, but since it's Saturday, I'm late.

Hi Ladies!  On occasion I have been known to hide things from you.  I've had my Caranday Dress on ice for a month.  My plan was to save it for something special.

You and I both know how hot this Dress is.  To be honest with you, I didn't know I wanted the dress.  I stumbled upon the eBay Auction Listing and suddenly I had this overwhelming urge to bid. The original price for the Caranday Dress was $178.  Bidding started at $158.  The dress was listed as never worn. Perhaps the connection to my favorite dress designer finally registered.

So I did what any Red blooded Anthro Girl would do.  I sniped the dress with a Max bid of $235. My winning bid was for $212.  I was later refunded $10 for dry cleaning costs.  The dress appears brand new as the Seller promised, but smelled bad.

I may as well mention this now.  I learned after the fact, that I sniped at least 3 items this year from Readers.

If I sniped a Green Caranday Dress in Size 6 from you on July 25th. Please forgive me! 


I hope you have since found a replacement Caranday. 

Today I am wearing one of the three sniped items with the Caranday Dress. Anthropologie's Shrunken Jemima Cardi by Moth.  Why am I wearing the Cardi? The strange thing is, the actual bodice is big along the top. Since peep shows are strictly forbidden at work, I covered for modesty's sake. The size 6 fits perfectly everywhere else.

I am in serious need of Carly's (Strawberry Heels Forever) F21 top, or something similar to layer underneath.  If you see something that could work, please let me know.  I was looking for a top like hers long before the Caranday Dress. Any top in Ivory, White, or very light Yellow, stretchy, thin, short or cap sleeves, with a moderately cut neckline will work.

Why am I Celebrating The Caranday Dress?

Many of Laura’s wonderful followers have asked what happened with my Caranday Dress purchase that went horribly wrong on Ebay, so Laura invited me to tell my story.  The reason I’m telling it is because I care that it doesn’t happen to anyone else – no one deserves disappointment like this.  Also it’s a BIG “Thank You” to all of you who have shown such great concern!  You are simply the BEST!! 

A couple of weeks ago I did a search on Ebay for a Caranday Dress and a size 2 Red Caranday dress appeared!  My heart started beating SOOO fast as I was REALLY excited!  Number 1 mistake, don’t get excited too quickly – do your homework!  I did…sort of.  It had a BIN price of just under $200 I believe, and a starting price of $149.99 by the seller.  I did NOT bid that day ladies because the seller did not have any feedback (although she could have been just cleaning out her closet?) and I had to think about it. I should have listened to my Woman’s Intuition right there but I didn’t.  The next day there was a starting bid of $149.99 by someone on July 25^th who had 217 feedback stars.  So the BIN price was gone and I was really disappointed because bidding scares me.  I have had some very successful purchases on Effortless Anthropologie and only a couple on Ebay but they went well.  Still, I had lost out on a couple of dresses on Ebay and that hurts!  I then rationalized that 1 person bid $149.99 so far so SHE must think the seller is ok.  The seller offered a 7 day return policy which I KNOW most don’t (RED LIGHT ALERT) so I thought what would I have to lose, I can return it and all I would be out is my return postage.  Ladies, it was NEW without tags, A CARANDAY, who could resist?!   But still, did I think it was safe to commit?  I could ask the seller to email me a picture of the dress like I had learned to do on Effortless, but get this mistake, I didn’t want to “offend” her by questioning the authenticity of her dress.  I waited until the last day (July 28^th) and decided that it would be ok, I WANTED that dress so much that it blinded me from seeing the whole picture.  I placed a high bid of $250.00 on and closed my eyes and shut off the computer not wanting to see who won till it was over.  After it was all over I held my breath and turned on the computer and OMGOSH. She said she would probably send it out the next day and I told her she was wonderful and she said I had been wonderful as well!  She couldn’t have been nicer!  Got a tracking number the next day that showed she had electronically (online) notified USPS of her Priority package and that she had paid for it to be insured for $200.  Whew!  I felt totally safe!  All weekend long I kept checking to see if the package had been scanned by USPS.  The beginning of the week still showed no acceptance scan and I wrote her a nice note asking if she had sent the dress and belt out yet, but no worries if not as I was just checking because I was hoping to wear it the following weekend.  (Girls, it was to a Katy Perry Concert in LA, COULDN’T you just SEE that dress there?!  The PERFECT Katy Perry Dress as it was red and cream stripes!)  I was so surprised that I didn’t hear from her.  Maybe she went on vacation?  I kept giving her the benefit of the doubt because I still NEVER thought I wouldn’t get it.  I sent out another nice email and checked my Ebay account and this is what she wrote on my feedback:  Sweet Ebayer!! Super fast payment. I hope you love the dress and the belt. Thanks”  Well GREAT!  All was well!  Maybe she gave the package to someone else to mail out and they forgot or just hadn’t done it yet.  She was from Florida so it was coming a long way to Southern California .  I would wear something else to the concert and I would probably get it the following Monday or Tuesday.  No problem!  By the middle of the following week, light was dawning inside poor Joni’s Pollyanna head, who always sees the glass half full. My dress and belt might not be coming.  I sent two really nice emails through Ebay asking if she had sent my package out and if not was there a situation where she wasn’t able to get it out and was there something I could do to help?  I read up on the Ebay Buyer Protection Plan and also put a search into USPS to see if it had ever been accepted (it hadn’t).  I called Ebay about the dress, and a really nice girl told me it was time to open a case against her as I had waited long enough.  Then she forwarded me to Paypal so I could talk to them about the belt.  Paypal also said it was time and a very nice man helped me.  Lastly I realized I could ask for information about her from Ebay and sure enough they emailed me an address and phone number.  I called the next morning and a Bank and Trust from Florida answered and they had never heard of her.  Now it REALLY sunk in that the dress wasn’t coming.  Silly Joni, still trusting.  This Friday I will be asked by Ebay and Paypal to “Escalate” my case against her and most likely I will receive all my money back in time.  But of course I would rather just have the dress. 

The point here is read up on EVERY piece of information Laura  has given you!  It is valuable and she is experienced!  If you already knew all of this I am proud of you!  I have learned the hard way to not let my emotions get in the way of making good choices when warning bells are ringing! 

Thank you ALL for your support!  You are AMAZING Ladies and it’s an honor to be part of this fun Community!  This loss was almost worth it for all the new friends I have made!

Ok on a nice note Ladies, I can’t BELIEVE I jumped in again but I bid on a grey size small Snakebite belt and WON!   I JUST got it in the mail (SUPER FAST!!) and it WAS brand new in Anthro online packaging and it WAS authentic!  YEA!  One down and with a hope and a prayer maybe I will get my Caranday Dress which is the LAST TREASURE on my wish list!  Woo Hoo!

For a casual Caranday look, I couldn't ask for a more perfect sandal than the KM Gladiators by Matt Bernson in Green Patent.

I was in a meeting Thursday afternoon, when I happened to check my email.  It was then I saw a comment from Kavita.  I was up and out of the room with a bathroom excuse.  I couldn't believe what I read. Kavita just found her Red Caranday Dress on eBay. Which meant that she was prepared to sell her Green Caranday to Joni.   I had never spoken to Joni personally, but she had given me her number just in case she was asleep at the wheel when the moment arrived.  Allergy Medication had knocked her out.  Later that night we screamed our joy over the phone once the transaction was under way.

I'm celebrating a happy ending to Joni's Caranday Dress Cause.  I am truly grateful to be part of this wonderful Anthro Community.  When one of it's Members is in need, this community comes to her aid.

Thank you Kavita.  The transaction was made in Anthropologie Heaven.  It couldn't have been more perfect. Can't wait to meet you!

Anthro has been trying to tell us something for months.  For example...the Take Action Dress in Polka Dot I wore on Wednesday.  Anthro left us no alternative but to purchase this dress full price. They also told us to grab the Pomflower Shift and the Mompos Dress before it was gone.  Have you noticed how fast the Fall line-up of Chie Mihara's is selling out.

The Nightshades Heels are gone... at full price

 The Points of Light Heels are just about gone... at full price

Anthro is stocking only a few pairs in each size of these very expensive items.  They would rather sell out than put these items on sale.  Granted, you can find these items elsewhere.  That isn't going to keep Anthro in Business.  So what will?

I plan to purchase as much full priced Anthropologie as my budget will allow 

Which means in the long run I will have less Anthro in my closet  

So be it

If the Fall line-up is not everything Anthro has promised it will be, we will all be returning to the Medieval Pre-Anthro Mall shopping days.  It was worse than torture then!  Even more so now that we have experienced Anthropologie.  It's my daily motivation I can't happily live without.

Now you don't 

This is where Anthropologie will be if we don't do something soon.  I am happy to do this alone.  At least I can stand up and say I tried to make a difference.

Truth is... I can't make a difference by myself

Please shop at Anthropologie tomorrow.  Don't make your goal to fill your closet with as much as it will hold.  Instead, buy those special full priced Fall items that you really want.
